Referring particularly to the drawing The numeral 10 designates a short tubular member of oval construction and the numeral 11 designates a peripheral flange comprising ornamental structure mounted on the outer surface 12 of the tubular member 10. A lconcavey partition 14 is disposed in the tubular member 10 intermediate the ends thereof dividing said tubular member into front and rear compartments 15 and 16 respectively. A stone 17 preferably of the type commonly known as cameos, is mounted in the yfront compartment 15. Thefront edges 18 of the tubular member 10 are disposed inwardlyas indicated at 19 to engage the outer surface of the stone mounting lfor retaining the latter in the front compartment. The back of the cameo mounting maybe formedto con-y form with the shape of the partition 14 against which it abuts.
An elliptical ring member 20 is disposed inthe rear end of the tubular member and is secured thereto by solder in an extended relation with respect to the rear end of said tubular member. The ring 20 is provided at its upper extremity with a hinge element 21 adapted to co-actwith the hinge element 22 mounted on the cover 23 for pi-votally attaching said cover to the brooch inposition to close the vopen rear end ofthe tubular member. The cover 23 is provided with a flange 24 positioned inwardly from the edge of the cover and extending completely around the circumference thereof. A picture may be pasted on the inner. surface of the cover if desired. The flange24 is adapted to recline-within the ring 2O and adjacent the inner surface thereof. An extension 26 at the bottom of the cover 2O is provided for facilitating opening thereof.
A pin 27 is pivotally mounted in a bracket 28 rigidly securedto therear surface of the 29 mounted on the opposite side of said flange. The details of the catch 29 are shown 1n Fig. 6 wherein the numeral 30 designates a .standard comprisinga looped upper endy 31. A lever 32 is pivotally mounted in a rslot 33 in the standard and is provided at one end with a handle numeral 34 and at the other end with an extension 35 adapted to be positioned in close relation to the open end ofthe loop 3l for closing th-e same to prevent'aceidental disengagement of the pin 27 from the looped member 31 in which the sharpened end portion /36 of the pin is adapted to be disposed. l
The brooch may be pinned to a garment byy employment of the pin 27 or it may be depended from a chain if desired by attachment of a chain, not shown in the drawings, to the pivotally mounted ring 38 journaled on the pin 39 mounted in the bracket 40.
In the modiiied form of my invention shown in Fig. 7 .a block 41 provided With a groove 42 is mounted on the cover 23. The groove 42 is adapted to receive the pin 27 which is pivotally mounted as described in the description of Figs. l to V5 inclusive.
The modified form of 4my invention shown in Fig. 8, comprises a pin 27;l of irregular curvature adapted to contact at spaced points directly with the surface of the cover 23n as shown, the other elements being identical to lthose described in connection with the description of Figs. l to 6 inclusive.
The pointed end portion of the pin 271 is formed, as shownin Fig. 8, so as to recline at an inclination to the coveiI 232L when Ward end an ornamentalstone, and formed at its rear end with a. compartment having an open extremity, a cover pivotally mounted on said tubular member adapted to be disposed over the open end of said compartment, fastening means comprising an irregularly curved pin pivotally mounted on said tubular member adapted to 'engage said cover at spaced points for holding the same in closed posit-ion. v v I 2. In a brooch, the combination .with a tubular member having an open extremity, a cover pivotally mounted on said tubular member adapted to be ldisposed over said openv extremity, va pin curved irregularly tubular memberto Vengage the pointed endl portion of said pin for retaining the portions of the pin adapted to engagethe cover at spaced points in contact Wit-li Vsaid cover. In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
