Definitions
- This invention relates to an apparatus designed for use in treating human hair and particularly where such treatment 1nvolves the use of fluid preparations as in Washing, cleansing or coloring.
- the main object of the present invention is the provision of an apparatus in which the head of the patient is inserted through an opening in an elongated, shallow receptacle, with the opening provided with means which will prevent the flow of the treating fluid from reaching any portion of the patient below the receptacle; the receptacle having means whereby it may be adjusted as to height or inclination, or both, to suit the height of the particular patient and the treatment contemplated, and is also provided with means by which the treating fluid may be conveniently discharged for use.
- Figure 1 is a View in side elevation of the improved apparatus.
- Figure 2 is a partial plan view of the forward portion of the receptacle.
- Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
- the apparatus comprises a base 1 which may be secured to the floor or other support or may, if desired, be of sufiicient size and weight to maintain the apparatus in proper position without liability of tipping.
- a hollow standard 2 rises from the base and slidably receives the post 3 which is adjustably secured in the standard by a hand-operated set-screw 4.
- the post 3 is provided at its upper end with a head 5 having lateral spaced ears 6 in which is mounted a shaft 7 threaded into one of the ears and passing loosely through the other and having an operating crank or handle 8.
- a block 9 has a portion extended between the ears 6 and rotatably supported on the pin 7, so that through proper operation of the handle 8 the block 9 may be locked in various pivotal relations with the head 5.
- the block 9 above the head 5 is formed with a rectangular opening 10 to slidably receive a similarly formed bar 11, a set-screw 12 serving to fix these parts in desired adjustment.
- the terminals of the bar 11 are PATENT OFFICE.
- the receptacle is of shallow, elongated form, though obviously capable of any size and shape, and has an edge rim 15.
- One edge of the receptacle is closed by appropriately curving the bottom of the receptacle, and the opposite end, which is normally open, is provided with a removable closure 16 slidably cooperating with the rim 15 and having an end wall which, when the closure is in place, prevents discharge of the contents of the receptacle.
- closure may be removed to permit the content of the receptacle to discharge, as for instance into a convenient basin indicated in dotted lines at 17.
- the receptacle is formed with an opening 18 of suflicient size to permit the convenient passage therethrough of the head of the patient.
- an opening 18 Surrounding this opening is a flexible rubber gasket 19 secured in place by a clamping plate 20 removably secured to the bottom of the basin.
- the gasket is formed with an opening 21 somewhat smaller than the opening 18 and so arranged that when the head of the patient is inserted through the opening and through the gasket, the edges of the gasket opening 21 will fit more or less snugly against the neck of the patient to prevent the passage of any fluid below the bottom of the receptacle.
- the receptacle may be adjusted as to height or inclination, and after the head of the patient has been passed through the openin s 18 and 21, the operator may freely use t e necessary cleansing or treating fluids without liability of the patients clothing or person below the head being affected. After treatment, the closure 16 may be removed and the contents of the receptacle discharged.
- An apparatus to permit the treatment of human hair comprising an elongated receptacle formed at its upper edge with guides, and closed at one end, and open at the opposite end, a removable closure for the open end of substantially the same shape in cross section as the cross section shape of the receptacle, said closure having guides which fit on and slide over the free ends of the guide on the receptacle, the receptacle having an opening formed in its bottom, a 5 resilient gasket formed with an opening of less diameter than the opening in the receptacle with the free edges of'the gasket extending inwardly of such receptacle opening, yokes depending from the receptacle, a longitudinal bar connecting the yokes, a sup- 10 port, and means between the support and the bar to permit longitudinal or tilting adjustment of the receptacle.
