Application filed August 7,1926. Serial No. 127,848.
ject of this invention is to construct an ex-. tension member of this character so that it will permit a yielding extension of the bracelet in a direction of its length to permit the same to be passed over the hand of the wearer without detachment of any of.
its parts.
A further object of the invention is to provide in such an extension member a means for detachably connecting one of the ends of the bracelet strap whereby the same may be detached to form the extension member to remove the bracelet from the wrist.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certa nnovel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating my extension member as interposed between the ends of wrist watch strap the same being illustrated in dotted lines in open position for the detachment of one of the strap parts therefrom. I
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the bottom section of the extension member.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the. deck plate which is mounted in the trough;
shaped bottom section.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the cross head slidable between the deck plate and the bottom section.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the spring for pressing the cross head towards one end of the bottom section. A
Figure 6 is a erspective view of the top section with the hinge pin spaced therefrom for connecting it'to the bottom section.
Figure 7 is a sectional. plan view of the device.
Figure 8 is a sectional side elevation taken on line 8-8 of Figure 7.
Figure .9 is a, perspective v ew showing an end piece attached to -'one of the strap parts. a
Figure an end piece attached to the other strap parts.
Figure 11 isa perspective view showing the sections as swung open on their hinge.
. length oft -which one of the strap bottom section, and 10 is a perspective view showing Figure 12 is a sectional end view of the device showing the relative position of the cross head member therein. It is found in bracelet constructions, which are especially adapted for wrist watch bracelets, desirable to provide a device interposed between the ends of the which the effective working e bracelet, for holding the watch snugly to the wrist of the wearer, maybe yieldingly extended to permit the bracelet to be passed over the hand of the wearer bracelet by without detaching any of the parts from each other or from the watch. It is also found desirable to provide a construction by tached from the extension device to permit the watch to be taken from the wrist without passing the same over the hand oi the wearer, and to accomplish this I have provided a spring pressed cross head slidable in the device to which one of the bracelet parts may be detachably connected and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of the invention showing parts may be. de- I one construction of extension member by which these advantageous results may be accom lished.
Wit reference to the drawings, 10 designates the wrist watch having bails 11 to which strap parts 12 and 13 may be attached. An extension member 14 is suit-.
ably interposed between and connected to the opposite ends of these strap parts, and comprlses a bottom section 15 having side walls 16 formin the same substantially trough shape "an in which is mounted adeck plate posed slots- 18 tl'lBIGHL- Beneath the deck plate there is slidably mounted a cross head member 19 which has pro ections 20 extending through the slots 18 to be guided therein.
A spring 21 tends to move the cross head so that thestrap part connected there con- 17 having longitudinally disv tracts the size of the bracelet. A top section 22 is hingedly connected to one end of the bottom section and has side walls 23 to telescopingly engage the side walls 16 of the is retained in closed position by friction between the same. A pin 24 extends through the openings 25 and 26 in the bottom and top sections to hingedly connect them together and also passes through an opening 27 in the end pleceby said cross head-exten a top plate hinged to said section to close permit such action.
other strap part 13 which has opening? 30 to receive the projectionsor pins 20, it mg understoodthat the closing'of the top section 22 over the bottom section engagesthe end of thepins 20 or is-in 'such close prox-- imity tothe ends of theprojections 20 that 'the end piece as; is prevented from disengagement with the projections. See Flgures 8. and 12, which illustrate the relative posrtion of the to; section to the projections on the cross hea From the foregoing watch bracelet stra ma be yieldingly extended in the direction 0 this length against the tension'of the spring 21 to enlargethe size of the bracelet to permit it to be passed over the hand'of the-wearer, without detachin'g any of its parts however, if it isdesired to remove the bracelet without .passing the same over the hand of the wearer'thetop section 22 may be opened and the. strap art 13 disengaged from the cross head as illustrated in dotted lines in Figure It will also be seen that by mas of the .ilpringfor drawingbzhe strap .part 13 into e ext ension inem r that the bracelet is automatically contracted and will snugly fit awristofanysize, The foregoin description is directed solely towards tie construction ,illustrated,
' butI desire it to be understood that Iref serve the privilege .of resorting. to all the mechanical changes to which the device 1s susceptible the invention being defined and limited 0 y by the terms of the appended claims. I
I'claimr 1'."In a watch bracelet strap having two parts, an extension device comprising a trough shaped section, a deck plate having a slot therein, a cross head slidable between said plate andsection, a (projectioncarried.
