WATER DRAIN.
Application filed August 17, 1926. Serial No. 129,754.
This invention relates to improvements in window screen attachments and more particularly to a device for permitting the water to drain from the space between the screen bar and the window.
In providing screens for ordinary windows it is the custom to make the screens very tight so as to prevent insects from gaining access to the room, and when this arrangement is provided, a quantity of water will accumulate after a heavy rain storm, between the screen bar and the window. and this water will eventually leak under the window and damage the walls of the room directly beneath the Window. The present invention contemplates a structure. which will avoid this.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in closed position.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the hinged element in raised position to clearly disclose the construction. I
Referring to the drawing by numerals, the screen bar 1 indicates the lowerbar of an ordinary screen, and this screen bar is provided with a recess 2 which may be of any desired length and which forms an opening between the window and the exterior of the screen. Surrounding this recess is a metallic plate 3which is'secured to the screen bar by fastening elements 4 and 5. One end of this screen bar is folded upon itself to provide a notch 6.
Pivotally mounted as indicated at 7 upon one end of the plate 3 is a closure element or gate 8 preferably constructed of perforated metal or heavy foraminous material which will permit the ready passage of water but will prevent the entrance of insects. A longitudinally extending reinforcing rib 9 is formed by turning outwardly one edge of the closure member'S as shown, and the free end is adapted to be lodged in the notch 6' when the device is in use.
This member 8 will close the recessQ against the entrance of insects but will permit water to drain out.-
wardlyand across the window sill.
\Vhat is claimed is:
1. A window screen accessory comprising a plate provided at one edge with a recess, said plate being provided at one end and beyond one end of the recess with a return bent portion disposed toward the recess, and a closure plate pivoted to the recessed plate at a point beyond the opposite end of the recess thereof and having a free end adapted to enter between the recessed plate and the return bent portion thereof when said closure plate is disposed over said recess.
2. A window screen accessorycomprising a plate provided at one edge with a recess, said plate being provided at one end and beyond one end of the recess with a return bent portion disposed'toward the recess, and a closure plate pivoted to the recessed plate at a point beyond the opposite end of the recess thereof and having a free end adapted to.
enter between the recessed plate and the return bent portion thereof when said closureplate is'disposed over said recess, said closure plate having an angularly disposed rib adapted to engage the edge of the said return bent portion.
hereof, I have affixed my In testimony w signature.
PETER FORTIN.
