My present invention relates to transparent, folding, rain-proof window screens and the principal object of the `invention is to provide a window screen `of the type described which can be used inside the usual window sash, and which whenfolded and in position will not interfere with the raising` and lowering' of thesash, andV which when the sash is raised and the screen opened, will perform all the functions of an ordinary window screen and in addition exclude the weather suchf as rain or snow without obstructing the view from the window or intertering with ventilation.
Tothis end my invention conteinpla'tesa major frame of a height not greater than one-half the height of a window sash. The side edges of this frame are grooved to receive tongued members or keepers adapted to be secured to the inside of the window frame and next to the lowerl sash. By varying the lateral extent of the keepers, the frame may be made to fit any size window, the frame remaining standard. @n the inside of this frame at each iside thereof, I provide triangular side wings, pivoted on perpendicular pins at top and bottom thereof, so that they cannot be swung outwardly beyond a plane at right angles to the plane of the main traine. These wings carry glass.
Tothe top of the main frame is secured asuppleinental frame as by hinges, which frame likewise carries glass, and is adapted to rest upon the hypotenuse of the triangu- `lar wings, and make a joint therewith. To the bottom of this frame is hinged a screen carrying frame, adapted to occupy `a horizontal position, its short side edges lying inside the side wings. its unattached longi` tudinal edge overlying' and engaging the main frame. y
The'various parts are so proportioned that the whole may be folded sopas to be included between two planes including; the front and rear faces ofthe main frame. l p

The reason for this is that it may be desirable to use two of the devices ina single window sash as shown in 3;
The lateral edges ofthe traine are grooved as at 2 in order to receive the tongues of the keeper element 3 whichis secured to thefwindow frame 4L and neiitthe window sash 5.
It is desirable that the keeper 3 extendup the entire height of the window frame, so that the device'niaybefuscd at any level. Stops 6 are provided to hold or retain the deviceat any position on the keepers.
Countersunk into the mainframe lare bearingblocks which receive the hinge pins 8 ofside wings 9. Similar provision is made for pins at the bottoni of the side wings.
These wings are preferably of triangular shape, the longer leg adjacent the rightangle lying next the :traine l. Obviously., the wings 9 may be made of any desirable material, but I have found it convenient uto construct the saine of sheet material such as aluminum. ln this form the `wings proper consist of three equal thicknesses of metal, riveted together, the center thicknessbeing` of'less lateral extent than its neighbors. A piecel of glass conforiningto the wing shape and of a thickness equal to that of the wing frame is held between the two outside metal strips.
The short leg` or'base of the wings Qyis provided with a downwardly projecting eXtension 10 which serves a purpose to be described later. It will be noted that the hinge pins of the side wings are located very nearthe inside edge of the main frame l. so that when the wings are swung out-ward to the open position, they will not go beyond a plane at llatter .pulledintoavard the main traine. This eiectively..prevents ,swinging out of the Wings beyond the point desired and at the saine time makes a Water-tight and insecttight `joint between the parts.
To the ,bottoni ott-he front .window 11, I hinge a bottom 14 carrying a screen 15. The inner llongitudinal `portion ot ,the bottom is provided with a flange 1G which overlies Vthe @bottom longitudinal ot the .main traine 1 and secures the parts in this position. It is to be noted that the over-all length of the screen bottoni istless `than the over-all `length `of ,fthe front Window '1l and lits snugly ibe- -tween thetopenedont side wings. The above .operation having been `'coinpleted, thescreened bottom 14 is sivungnp- Avardly-againstfthe -frontavindow `11; an d the A `outside plane .substantially coincides with `theoutside plane ofthe main frame. `The twill Window from its spring catch 20. In using the device it will be apparent that Ina-ny useful combinations may `be made. For instance, if only a single `one 1s :to be usedlit may occupy `the lower half of fthe lower sash or upper halt of :the `upper sash. If the upper location is desired, the devicelmay loe held in this position `byrneans Lof the 4appropriate stop "6.

A folded window` screen comprising a main frame., side Wings vertically hinged 'i thereto, a :E1-ont window horizontally hinged thereto, a screened bottom horizontally hinged to the bottom of the front Window, the bottom lying between the front Window and the side Wings, the outer plane of the front Window being substantially liush with the outer plane of the main frame, the inner plane of the side wings being substantially Hush With the inner plane of the main frame.
