Description

Feb. 7, 1928. LGSSJME T. BUCHHOLZ RAIL FASTENING Original Filed Jan. 15. 1926 Elli THEUZDQR BUCHHULZ, OF BERLllF-ZEHLENDORE-WEST, GEMEANY.
nan. rnsrnnrne.
Uriginal application filed January 15, 1926, Serial No. 81,562, and in Germany may 16, 1925. Patent lilo.
L'd l dfifill, dated August 30, 1927. Divided and this application filed March 15, 1921?.
This invention relates to a rail fastening in which the base of the rail is supported between projections or ribs provided on a sole plate. 'l-he invention consists in this, that the ribs extend over the entire length of the sole plate and are provided in the middle with a recess of the width of the shank or a if-bolt for holding down the rail, and the sole plate is provided with a larger opening for the insertion of the l -bolt under the projecting parts of the rib.
A constructional form of the rail i'astening according to the invention is illustrated by way of example in the drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section through the rail. 1
Figure 2 is a plan view of the sole plate.
Figure 3 is a perspective View of a detail.
Referring to the drawing, the sole plate a which is fixed on the wooden sleeper 0 by means of the screws d is provided on either side of the rail 1' with ribs or projections Z; of which only that rib situated on the one side of the rail is shown. The rail 2' is held down on the sole plate a by means of clips h which are drawn down tightly on the sole plate by means of fixing bolts f. Between the ribs 7) and the base of the rail, gauge adjusting members can be introduced as required.
The ribs or projections Z) of the sole plate a are made low and extend over the entire length of the sole plate a (this length being measured in the longitudinal direction of the rail). Below the middle part of each rib a downwardly extending aperture y of approximately square shape is formed in the sole plate a, the side of the square corresponding to the length of the heads of the bolts f which hold down the clips h. The ribs I), however, have in their middle only a narrow gap having only the width of the shank ot' the bolts, so' that the parts a of the ribs extend over the corresponding edges of the aperture 1 of the plate a, and the Serial No.
the clip 72. from slipping and on the other hand, it iills the part or the aperture 3 of the sole plate which is not occupied by the head of the bolt 7". Consequently the aperture 3 cannot become filled with dirt and the sleeper cannot swell up at this point, which would easily make diflicult or prevent I the removal and replacement oi the bolt.
What ll claim is 1. A rail fastening, comprising in combination, a sole plate having rib-like members extending completely along the sole plate in the direction of the track, between which members the rail can rest, clips tor holding down the rail, hammer-headed bolts for holding down said clips, a gap in the middle part or each rib-like member of the width of the shank of said bolts, into which gaps the bolts can be inserted, an aperture in the sole plate below the middle part of each rib-like member into which the bolt heads can be inserted, the parts or the said members on either side of the gap therein extendin; over the aperture in the sole plate, and a own: wardly projecting lug on the outer limb of each clip, said lug being capable of engaging in the aperture in the sole plate and to gether with the bolt head of almost filling said aperture and having a depth less than that of the sole plate, as and for the purposes set ziorth.
2. A rail fastening, comprising a rail seat having rib-like members, clips ca able of bridging said members for holdin own the rail, bolts for holding down sai clips, an aperture in the rail seat below the middle part or each rib-like member, said aperture being capable of receiving a bolt head and being surrounded by a continuous wall oi? the material. of which the rail seat consists, a
gap in the middle part of each rib like me ber of the width or? the shank oil the bolts into which gaps the bolts can be inserted from the side, the parts of said rib-like members on either side ofthe gap therein projecting over the aperture in the rail seat, and
rue
Mill) 3. A rail fastening, comprising a rail seat having rib-like members, ertendin 'completely along the rail seat in the direction of the track, between which members the rail can rest, clips capable of bridging saidmembers for holding down the rail, bolts for holding down said clips, an aperture in the rail seat below the middle part of each riblike member, said aperture being capable of the parts of said rib-like members on either side of the gap therein projecting over the aperture in the rail seat, and a lug on the foot of each clip capable of engaging in the aperture in the rail seat, said In being capable, together with the bolt heail, of filling 'said aperture, as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
THEODOR BUCHHOLZ.
