UNITED STATES FRANCIS D. HUNTSMAN, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.
WELDING MASK.
Application filed February The invention seeks to effect an improvement in window construction for welders" masks whereby to enable the rapid renewal or exchange of protective glasses therein. The invention has the advantage of extreme cheapness and simplicity, while at the same time being durable and efficient.
In the accompanying drawing Figure l is a side elevation of a mask on which my invention is incorporated; Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the mask,
Figure 3 is a. rear view of the mask, and Figure 4 is a fragmentary front elevation partly in section showing the window structure in detail.
There is illustrated a mask comprising a face shield 10 having a planiform front portion 11, the shield beingmounted in any approved manner upon a head-piece 12 of any suitable construction, by which the shield maybe supported upon the head of a person. A rectangular window opening 13 is formed in the front of the shield so as to r be in front of the eyes of the wearer-of the device. A frame 14 is positioned around this opening at the inner side of the shield, so formed as as to provide a fiange-like part to retain a protective glass 15 set in the opening from the front. On the outer side of the shield another" frame 16 is provided alined 20, 1922. Serial M53191).
with the opening in the shield and having a smaller opening therein so that it serves as a retainer at the front side of the window opening. Part of this frame is arranged to be flexed so that it may be moved outward to permit the insertion of the protective glass or glasses as required, the edge of the flexible portion being formedwith slots 17 extending inwardly from the end edge of the fame, and turn buttons 18 are rotatably mountedon the front of the shield adapted to be alined withthe slots at times to permit the flexible portion to move outward, and to be turned crosswise of the slots at other times, to hold the frame in retaining position.
I claim: 7
In a mask of the character described, a
shield having a window opening in the front part, a glass retaining frame at one side thereof, and a glass retaining frame at the opposite side of said opening mounted and constructed so as to be flexible in a part for movementoutward suliiciently to permit insertion of a glass between the two frames, and means to secure the flexible part releasably against opening movement.
In witness whereof, I have hereto set my hand this 14th day of February, 1922.
