Description

Feb. 7, 1928. 1,658,263
G. F. STANLEY METAL LABEL inal Filed Jan. 14, 1925 INVENTOR ATTORNEY;
Patented Feb. 7, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE F. STANLEY, OF DAYTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE STANLEY MFG. COMPANY, OF DAYTON, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO;
METAL LABEL.
Original application filed January 14, 1925, Serial No. 750,924. Divided and this application filed March 19, 1925.
My invention relatesto labels.
This application isa division of my copending application Ser. No.-750,92t, filed Jan. 14, 1925. v
It is the object ofmy invention to provide labels with paper and glue backing adapted for attachment to various articles of 1nanufacture such as strands of pearls, beads, and the like, or similar articles.
It is a further object of my invention to provide such an arrangement in connection with the paper backing and adhesive surfaces so that the respective parts of the label will adhere to each other to .form a permanent seal of the labelupon the articlev without sticking to the article.
A still further object is to provide a label such that thewing portions may be disjoined from the article to which the label is attached without destroying the body of the label or injuring the article.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure l is a plan view of one form of the label or' back; and
Figure 2 is a perspective showing the arrangment of the layers of metal, glue, and paper in Figure 1-.
Referring to the drawings in detail; 1 designates one half of the label, while 2 designates theother half, such halves being connected by a narrow rectangular connecting band'3.
The metal plate 7 forming the body of the Serial No. 16,684.
label is susceptible of being embossed and carrying various colors and color combinations. I The back of the body portion of the label is coated with a coating of glue 4, a coating of paper 5, and another coating of glue 6.
It Will be obvious that upon a strand of pearls or other articles being located between the plates 1 and 2 adjacent the band 3, that the glued surfaces of the plates may bemoistened and joined together, thus forming a loop which affixes the backing to the strand without applying adhesive to the strand and making it impossible to detach from the strand unless it is especially desired so to do.
I desire to comprehend Within my invention such modifications as may be necessary to adapt it to varying conditions and uses.
Having thus fully describedmy invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A label comprising a pair of metal plates, a bridge connecting the tWo plates together and adapted to be bent around an article of merchandise whereby to dispose the plates in superposed relation, and a tearable backing on the faces of the plates, said backing having an adhesive coating whereby to secure the plates together.
In testimony whereof, I afiiX my signature.
GEORGE E. STANLEY.
