eonsr INDICATOR."
Application filed March 9, 1927. v Serial No. 173,827.
. My invention relates to guest indicators that are adapted for use in hotels, apartments, and other "rooming houses. The principal objects of the invention are to pro- 5 vide positive means for indicating the move embodying the principal features of the invention; i
Fig. 2 is a viewin vertical section taken substantially on a broken line 2, 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a detail view in perspective of the indicator push rod; and
Fig. 4 is a view in horizontal section taken on a broken line 4, 4 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings throughout which like reference numerals designate like parts, the numeral 5 indicates a fragmentary portion of a door, having a metal'plate 6 secured to the inner side thereof by means of tacks, or the like as indicated at 7.1
The greater upper'porti'on of the plate 6 is cut away leaving a rectangular opening 8 and the metal along the lateral edges of said opening is cut in along the top and bottom edges at 9 and said edges are rolled or curved outwardly to formside flanges 10. A. flap of metal is left at the bottom of the opening which is bent outwardly at right angles'to form a lip or shelf 11. A pocket is thus 7 formed for the insertion of cards having advertising matter, directions, and other. instructions printed thereon.v The side flanges and lower lip will retain said display cards in place and a screw or pin 12 may be secured adjacent the upper edges thereof to prevent ready removal of the cards as will be understood. s 1 Q An annular dial plate 13 is revolubly mounted on the plate 6 below the opening 8 and may be turned by a knob 14. A plu- Flgure 1 is aview inelevation of a guest indicator securedto a portion of a door and,
rality ofwords, such as indicated at 1 5, ma 1 be'placed around said dial to indicate .suc 5 service as laundry work,-pressing and cleaning, and also to indicate whether the room is still occupied or Whether the occupant has checked out, Said words may be printed on the bottom of the cards that are pla'ced in the pocket if so desired. By directing the my dial to theproper wordthe guest may readily indicate what service he desires and also whether he has left the hotel or still continues to hold the room. The advantages in this arrangement will be manifest in that the guest may leave his soiled clothes in the room and turn the dial to the proper service word. so that his clothes may betaken while he is absent, and also in the fact that the chambermaid may be known at a glance what to do regarding change of linen and the like. 3
Slightly below the dial plate 13 a hole 16 passes through the plate 6, door 5, and
through a small plate 17 secured to the outer face oflthe door. Said hole slants down-V wardly'from the inside to the outside and a push rod '18 is adapted to be inserted therein. The hole is disposed in said slantwise direction for the dual purpose of directing its line of vision above the occupants of the room and also to prevent the rod from becoming readily dislodged. The inner end of said push rod is provided with a ring portion 19 that is larger than said hole, and its outer end is provided with a protuberance 2O that is of a size that will just pass through the hole. Referring to Fig. 2 the length of said rod is sufficient to permit said protuber ance-to project through the door when its ring end portion is against the inside of the door or plate. l
The protuberance 20 on the 'rod' 18 is made of polished meta-l somewhat in the shapeof an acorn so that it may be readily seen from the outside, and when there is'no light in the Q hall its sharp outer end may be readily felt 1 from the outside. Thus the maid in assing along the hall and. seeing or feeling t e protuberance may know she is atliberty to enter. a
the room. The dial and push rod arrangements are cooperative in the fact that the guest installs the push rod in the hole to summons the maid who enters the room to see what desired class of service is indicated bythe dial.
Having thus described my invention, it being understood that minor changes may be resorted to Without departing from its scope and spirit, what I claim our desire to secure by Letters Patentof the United States 4 indicator comprising a plate secured to the The combination with a door, of a guest inside of the door, and a push rod adapted to project through a hole slantingly disposed 10 through said door and plate. i
In Witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe myq name this 21st day of February A. D.
ALBIN T. LINN.
