DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application filed October 26, 1925. Serial No. 64,939.
` provide a display device for boxed articles which heretofore have been displayed by tilting the box within the inverted cover and exposing and displaying the exposed layer of the article contained within the box or carton.
The chief feature of the invention con sists in the provision of a display device comprisinga pair of side portions having upper inclined edges connected to a U- shaped tray or trough forming cover, said display device forming a cover for the boX and a support for a layer lof the articles to be vended in inclined relation with respect to the box contents.
The full nature of the invention vwill be understood from the accompanying draw ings and the following description and claims:
In the drawings F ig` 1 is a perspective view of one .form of the invention showing the same mounted within a box or carton. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the invention straddling the same box. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the invention disassociated from the box. Fig. l is a perspective view of a modified form of the invention. Fig. 5 is an elevational view of a modified form of display device. Fig. (i is an end view o f said device.
In the drawings 10 indicates the end wall of a carton and 11 the side. walls thereof.
The invention shown in Figs. 1 to inclusive, includes a pair of side portions 12 cach having a bottom edge or base line 13 and an inclined upper edge 14. The forward and rear edges of the side portions 12 may be suitably formed and herein the rear edge includes two portions angular of each other. A U-shaped trough or tray forming strip 15 connects the pair of substantially parallel side portions by being secured to said side portions at and substantially alongv the entire upper inclined edges 14 thereof. The U-shaped tray forming cover portion 15 includes the upturned portion 16 that lies parallel to the side portion 14. The arrangement is such, therefore, that a single piece of sheet metal may be formed with two side portions and an intermediate connecting portion, said side and connecting portions being so connected as to form a U- shaped trough or tray and a U-shaped straddling cover arrangement.
As indicated by Figs. 1 and 2, the free ends of the side portions are movable relatively of each other, that is, towards and away from each other for positioning in a box or for straddling a box or carton.
In Fig. 4 a modiiied form of the invention is illustrated and in this form of the invention the cover portion 115 is provided with the curved edge 116 at each side thereof, the same forming a groove 117 to receive the upper inclined edge 118 of the sides 112 having the lower curled edge 11.3. In this form of the invention the two sides not only rhave movement relatively of each other when in assembled relation, but are capable of disassociation and can be placed in the tray portion in knock-down arrangement when collapsed.
In Figs. 5 and 6 there is illustrated ar modification of the 'invention and in this form of the invention the sides are formed of one piece 212 having the lower edge 213 and the upper inclined edge 214, which up` per inclined edge is connected by a U-shaped trough forming portion 215. In this form of the invention the trough is closed at its upper and lower ends as at 217 and 218 and the lower end closure is extended as at 219 to form an end. This form of the invention is preferably used in the same position as that shown in Fig. Q, that is, covering the bo);
and enclosing the end thereof. The forms of the .invention shown in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive, expose the end of the box or carton. If desired this form may be inserted.
In Figs. 5 and 6y also the end connection or closure for thetrough 218 is shown with a pair of parallel slots or slits Q2() forming the offset portion 221 adapted to receive a price ticket 222. The cover portions 15 and 115 in the other forms may have upturned upper and lower ends if desired, and either of these ends may be similarly slitted to receive a price ticket. i
The invention claimed is:
In combination, a display device coinprising sides telescopically insertible within e. Container Without removal of the contents, the upper erlgesolf the sides being,v inclinedI` the low point olf each olf the sides terniiiiziting VWithin the container und the high point exteriorly thereahove, an inelinecl'tray and cover forming portion, ineens carried hv the inclined sides of the tray and opergitively connecting the inclined marginal edge of the adjacent side to the tray and cover form- N" ing portion, ai portion Connected to the low end of' the Cover forming portion and np- Wan-illy disposed, and :i liront portion Connected it its upper edge to the upper edge of the forward portion and extending clownxvxzirclzlvv with respect the last named por-A tion. p
1n Witness whereof, I have hereunto ai lixecl my signature.
