BEVER-AGE SHAKER.
Application filed December 21, 19%.
lily invention has reference more particularly to devices which are commonly known as cocktail shakers, and are designed tor mining and cooling beverages.
The principal objects oi: my invention are to provide a convenient device tor mixing and` cooling beverages, wherein the beverage is separater. :troni the ice or other cooling` medium so that the beverage is not diluted or otherwise impaired or ce 'aininited by direct contact theretvitl'i; eiiectively seal both oi? the compartments; to render all the parts readily accessible for thorough cleaning; and in general? to provide a simple and erective mixer or shaker of this character tvherein the beverage inay be readily mixed and cooled and poured out Without coming in contact with the ice or other cooling inediui'n.
On the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view or a cocktail shaker embodying my improvements;
Fig. 2 a side view of the main portion thereof;
3 a side view ot the cap; and
Fig. l a similar view or the cover of the cocktail shaker.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 indicates the main receptacle which is in the torni or". a truncated cone, and has a tubular shell or cylinder 2 therein, which is pe 1manently secured to the bottoni of the receptacle 1 by soldering as indicated at 3, or in any other'suitable manner, said cylinder being spaced from the vrall of the receptacle l. so as to form an annular chainber 4 between the receptacle 1 and the shell The shell Q projects upwardly above the receptacle 1 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and preferably has the upper end tapered slightlv indicated at- 5 so as to be snugly d by the correspondingly tapered neck of the cover 7. At the loiver edge the cover Tis formed with an annular iiange 8 which is flared slightly so as to effect a Hedging engagement with the tapered portion Q at the upper end ot the receptacle 1. The arrangement of the neck 6 or" the cover and flange 8, and the taper or the interiittfng parts is such that when the cover 7 i pressed in position, a tight lit is edeeted eeithe neek 6 of the cover 7 and the Serial llo. 631,908.
tapered upper end of the cylinder 2 and also betwee the flange 8 and the upper portion 9 or the receptacle 1.
jr cap l0 having an annular wall tapered to lit snugly against the exterior of the neck (i has a gasket 11 therein to engage the upper fe oit the neck and also the upper edge ot ered portion 5 of the cylinder 2, the being extended upwardly to a position substantially flush with the upper edge of -e neck rhis cap 10 therefore, when aeed in position7 not only seals the upper of the cylinder 2 but also serves at the e time by means or the gasket 11, to add ionally seal the joint betiveen the neck 6 or trie cover 7 and the tapered upper end 5 ot the cylinder 2.
ln practice the chamber l contains the ice or other cooling medium and the cylinder 9. the beverage which is to be mixed and cooled, and itivill be thus seen that the beverage is entirely separated from the ice or other cooling medium. rEhe ice is placed in the compartment 4 and the cover 7 placed in position so as to seal the connection between the upper edge ot the receptacle 1 and the loiver edge of the cover 7, and the neck 6 at the saine time seats against the upper end of the cylinder 2 so that the ice chamber is thoroughly closed. The beverage is then poured into the upper end of the cylinder 2 and the cap 10 applied7 and by shaking the device the beverage is thoroughly mixed and cooled.
After the beverage has been sufficiently mined and cooled, the cap 10 is removed and the beverage poured from the cylinder 2, the ice and Water in the chamber 4 being sealed therein by the fitting of the joints so that it does not discharge as the beverage is poured out. N
lt is noted that the tapered upper end portion of the cylinder or inner liquid ieceptaele 2 and the tapered neck ot the cover 7 proiecty to a considerable entent above the inain body of the cover and 'forni in effect a suitable pouring spout for the liquid receptacle.
lllliile l have shown and described my invention in a preferred forni, I am aware that various changes and inodilications may be inade Without departing from the principles of my invention, the scope of which is to be dctern'iined by theappended claim.
I claim as my invention: i n A beverage shaker comprising' an outer ice 'receptacle having` an upwardly tapering of the ice receptacle, a slip cover of inverted '10 cup shape having ka flaring rim snugly tting the Vouter surface of the taperingrrim of theice receptacle, and said cover having a tapering neck projecting from its upper end and :snugly fitting the outer Asurface of the tapering upper end portion of the beverage receptacle andV forming therewith a pouring spout for the beverage receptacle, and a closure cap for the latter fitting over said Ytapering neck, substantially as described.
