A. J. CICHON TWEEZERS I Filed Aug. 27. 1924 gwwntoz 3% gi /Mm Patented Jan. 3i,
UNITED STATES ALBERT J, CIGHON, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.
TWEEZERS.
Application filed August 27, 1924. Serial No. 734,529.
The present invention relates to tweezers and particularly a tool of this class which is adapted to be used by a jeweler in the repairing of watches and the like.
The prime object of the invention is to provide a tool of this class of very simple and etficient construction, one which is reliable, inexpensive to manufacture, strong, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide tweezers which are adapted to hold small articles such as watch jewels in order that the same may be efliciently cleaned.
lVith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of tweezers embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof,
Figure 3 is a side elevation thereof,
Figure 4: is a transverse section taken substantially on the line 4 4i of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrow, and
Figure 5 is a detail perspective of the end of one of the gripping arms.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the device consists of two resilient gripping arms 5 which are connected at one end as at 6 and diverge from each other "from this end, terminating in tapered portions 7 which in turn terminate in tapering fingers 8. The upper edges of the portions 7 adjacent jaws 8 are beveled inwardly as at 9 as are also the upper portions of the opposing faces of the fingers 8 as is indicated at 10, the lower portions of said faces being disposed for mutual contact as shown in Figure l. The inner faces of the lingers 8 are provided with notches 11 and 12, the notches 11 being adapted to register with each other as are also the notches 12. The notches 11 are situated adjacent the free ends of the fingers 8, that is the pointed ends thereof, while the notches 12 are disposed adjacent the portions 7 of arms 5.
The fingers 8 are slightly bent inwardly toward each other so that when they are brought together as is shown in Figure 2 between the fingers and positioned within either pair of notches will have its upper portion exposed between the beveled upper portions of the faces of the gripping fingers and therefore in a position to be readily acted upon by a cleaning brush as clearly shown in Figure 4.
The inner faces of the fingers 8 are provided adjacent their extremities with longitudinally extending notches 15 which open through the inner sidesof the fingers and are designed primarily for holding watch jewels, pinions, and other fiat-sided parts.
It is thought that the construction and operation of the tweezers will be now clearly understood without any more detailed description thereof. It is desired, however, to
- point out that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the. spirit or scope of 7 the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
Tweezers of the class described comprising a pair of resilient arms connected at one end and diverging toward their other ends, and, at their last mentioned ends, being tapered toward their extremities to provide gripping fingers having opposing faces, the fingers having the upper portions of their opposing faces beveled, the opposing faces of the fingers being provided with oppositely located, vertical notches extending be tween the lower sides of said faces and their beveled upper portions.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
ALBERT J. GIGHON.
