roeenn Application :llled .hprll C nr invention relates to certain improve rnents in toggles, used in stretching leather on trarnes during the process of manufacture. The invention is an improvement on that disclosed in an application for patent tiled lvlay 2?, i924, under Serial No; 716,13t.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of a toggle so that it will grip the leather firmly and will hold l the leather positively during the drying process.

The body 1 of the tog leis made of metal,
bent to form a finger ho d 2, and also forms the carrier for the pivoted jaw 3. The body of the toggle is bent at each side to form. flanges 4, between. which is located the eccentric toothed jaw 5. The eccentric jaw 5 has trunnions 6, which extend through holes in the side flanges 4. At the rear of the eccentric jaw 5 is a stop 7, which strikes the body 1 when the jaw is turned to its extreme position, shown in Fig. 2.
The main jaw has flanges 8 at each side and has a rounded outlet end, The flanges are pertorated for the pivot projections 9, termed of the portion 2 of the body. brace 10 extends across the toggle and connects the body with the curved end of the finger hold, as shown in Fig. 3. A tl-shaped bearing 11 extends through two slots in the bod l and through slots in the main jaw h. Pivoted to the bearing 11 is a lever 12. Un the short arm of the lever is a roller 13, which bears upon a plate l l mounted on the jaw {is between its flanges. plate is notched to allow clearance for the ends at of the bearing ll. has a stop 15 for the roller 13.
Arranged to slide on the bearing ll, haclr of the jaw 3, is a :danged plate 16, Fig. 8.
A spring is located between the plate 16 and co the body 1. A centering stud 17 on the body extends in the spring.
The body 1 is recessed at the back to receive a hooked plate 18. The plate is bent to receive the bearing ll so that the plate or is held in place on the body oi the toggle. The hooked end 19 oil the plate is arranged to engage a support 20 of any suitable type, as illustrated in Fig. 3.
By the construction, hereinbefore de- W scribed, the hooked plate can be readily removed and replaced when desired.
The support 20, which may be a wire netting, or a perforated plate, is carried by a suitable frame.
The leather is placed in position on the support and the toggles are a plied to the edges of the leather, The togg es are pulled to stretch the leather, and, while the leather is under tension, the toggles are hooked onto the support, the leather being held away from the surface of the support by the toggles.
The main jaw and the eccentric jaw are made of brass, or bronze, to avoid staining es the leather, and the hooked plate is made detachable. The eccentric jaw has teeth, which are so designed that they engage the leather positivel on moving the hand lever, when the leat or is clamped. to
This construction of toggles makes it unnecessary to temper the steel parts.
We claim:
1. The combination in a toggle, of a body, portion bent to form a finger hold; a jaw t5 pivoted to the body; a main jaw pivoted to the end of that portion forming the finger hold; a bearing extending from the body A through the main jaw; and a lever, on the bearing, engaging the main jaw. will 2. The combination in a toggle, of a body portion bent to form a finger hold; a movable main jaw pivoted to the outer end of the fin or hold; an eccentric jaw pivoted to the b0 y opposite the main jaw; and means ml for moving the main jaw towards the eccentric jaw.
3. The combination in a toggle, oil a body portion having e, finger hold at one end; a.

The combination in a toggle, of a body portion having an extension in the form of a. hand-hold; a main jaw pivoted to the extension; :1 hooked plate detachably secured to the back of the body portion; a bearing extending through the body portion and main jaw; a second j aw mounted on the body portion opposite the main jaw; and an operating lever mounted on the bearing for eetuating the main jaw, the bearing retaining the hooked plate in position on the body portion.
5. The combination in a toggle, of a body Learner portion having an extension recessed at the heck .and slotted; a U-shaped bearing extending throu h the slots of the body portion; a hooke plate mounted in the recess of the body portion and recessed to receive the bearing; a main jaw carried by the extension of the body portion; a second jaw mounted on the body portion opposite the main jaw; and mechanism for actuating the main aw, said mechanism being mounted on the bearing. 7

The combinationin :1 toggle, of a body ort-ion having an extension at one end form mg a hand-hold, said body portion bein flanged at each side; an eccentric toothe jaw pivoted to the flanges; a main jaw located opposite the eccentrictoothed jaw; and havin a flange at each side, said flanges of the main jaw being pivoted to the extension of the body portion; a bearing extending from the body portion throu '11 the main jaw; and a lever mounted on the earring and acting upon the main jaw.
