CARRIER FOR BRAIDNG IMACHINES.
application ined January av, 192e. `serial No. 84,063.
This invention relates to carriers for braiding machines; and has for its object to provide in such a carrier an improved arrangement of yarn take-up mechanism including an arm or lever tulcrumed at one end adjacent the yarn package and arranged to lift the package from a stop to control the letting oli ot the yarn. e
A further object of this invention is the provision oa fixed stop latch to engage the teeth ot the yarn package andI a lever arm arranged to be operated by the thread tension to litt the package clear of the stop to let off the yarn,
lWith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features ot construction, as will be more `l'ully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. i
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section showing the yarn package as resting f upon the lined stop latch, in which position it is releasably retained against rotation.
Figure 2 is a side elevation showing the lifting lever arm in section and positioned to lift the yarn package clear of the stop latch to permit rotation of the yarn package. Figure 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
`Figure d is a sectional edge view of the lever arm. y p
Figure 5 is an end view of the lever arm sectioned on line 5-5 et Fig, 1 illustrating' the downwardly-extending stop latch engaging guide lips.
lt is found in the practical operation of so-called high speed braiding carriers of this character, of advantage to provide a relatively long let oli' control arm so as to render the action oit the arm let oil mechanism less sensitive than is the case where a shorter leverage is employed.
lt is also found ot advantage to provide a stop latch which is lined to the carrier trarne to arrest rotation of the yarn package and to so arrange this lever arm as to be operated by a movement of the yarn tensioning mechanism to litt the yarnpackage clear of this latch permitting it 'to rotate and let oft' moreyarn; and the following is a detailed description of my invention and showing one conetructicn. and arrangement et parte latch laV and in order to provide simple and e etl'ective means for lifting this package clear of the stop, I have provided a lever arm 18 which has an opening 19 at one end to set ver the spindle"11 and rest upon the collar orsafddle 2O beneath the center of the package 17, and this arm or lever is also provided with an opening 21 to loosely tit overand be guided on the stop latch 14:; guiding ears or lips 22 being also formed on this lever `to assist inthe guiding action of the arm to prevent it from being disengaged from the stop when drawn up to an unusual height b v actionk of the let oli' mechanism. The free end 23 of this lever 1S is herein shown as being provided with a connecting wire 24, the upper end 25 oia which is looped around the weight standard 12 and in position` to be engaged by the weight 13 when carried upwardl;T b v tensioning `of the yarn 26 and when such upward movement of the weight isl sui'licient it serves to lit and cause its middle portion 27 which is intermediate its fulcrumed end and the end 23 where power is applied, to engage the under lsurface of the" yarn package to lift its teeth 15 clear of the latch permitting the package to rotate under tensionoi the yarn to` release more yarn and when released lto drop again presenting another tooth tobe engaged by the stop latch 14 and so tofinter-` 'mittently repeat this operation as more yarn is required during the braiding operation. `By this construction, it will be seenthat theltulcrum` point of the lift arm or lever, isr beneath the center of the thread package and its opposite or free end is connected to be operated through movement of the yarn `take up weight and the portion intermediate itsopposite ends is arranged to engage the trader side of the yarn package to lift the t the lever arm 18
