This invention relates to new andusef-ul improvements in couuterbalancestor wall"- in beam pumping rigs.
ll he object of the invention is to provide a counterbalance which by its simple and efficient design lends itself to a construction of metal instead of wood, thus making for durability, madness and a great reductionin the size of parts.
Another object of the invention is to provide a balancing beam and a fulcrum therefor which may be easily constructed, quickl assembled and adequately mounted and braced.
A further object of the invention is to provide a guide for the beam.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an extension for the walking beam and connecting link for the balancing beam, which may be constructed and 1nstalled in a simple and eiiicient manner.

The invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specification and by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which an example of the invention shown and wherein;

In the drawings the numeral 10 designates a concrete base on which a base plate 11 is secured by foot bolts 12. The base plate has a circular socket 12.in which the lower end of a tubular post 13 is stepped. This post may be made of salvaged pipe or may be otherwise constructed, consistent with the invention.
A cap 14: is mounted on the upper end of the post and is formed with a depending boss 15 fittingisnugly within the upper end of said post. A hearing boss 16 is formed with a concave bearing for receiving a fulcrum bar 17 Hook lugs 18 are provided at the front and rear sides of the cap, as is shown in Fig. 2. Brace rods 19, including turn buckles 20, have eyes 21 at their upper ends engaging over said lugs. Eyes 22 at the lower end of the brace rods are engaged in anchors 23 embedded in the base 10. A side brace 2%, preferably formed of a pipe having its upper end-flattened at 25, is bolted construction designed to carry out the a counterbalance constructed in acto the side of the post. A counterbalancing beam 27, composed of channel irons or otherwise constructed, has its rear end fastened on a rocker 28 which carries the fulcrum bar 17. If the beam is formed of two channels, they are spaced apart and counter-balancing weights 29 are secured thereon by clamps 30. These weights are disposed toward the forwardend of the beam and are spaced apart. A pair of vertical guide po ts 31, having their lower ends embedded in the base 10, straddle the beam and are connected by cross bars 32, between which the beam swings in a vertical plane.
A suitable pitman 33 has a stirrip 34 at its lower end in which the forward end of the beam 27 is pivoted. A stirrup 35 at the upper end of the pitman is fulcrumed on the rear end of an extension 36, secured to the rear end of the walking beam 37 by U- clamps 38. The weighted counterbalancing beamwill oltset the load imposed by the sucker rod, thus making for easy operation. The parts are substantial and durable and may be easily constructed and repaired.
Various changes in the size and Shape of the different parts, as well as modifications and alterations, may be made within the, scope of the appended claims.
lVhat I claim, is:
1. In a counterbalance for a pumping rig, the combination of a balancing beam comprising parallel spaced members having-a fulcrum bar across their rear ends, a cap on which the bar of the beam is fulcrumed, braces extending from saidcap, a post supporting said cap, a weight strapped on said beam members, a stirrup supporting the front ends of the beam members, and a link from which the stirrup is suspended.
2. In a counterbalance for a pumping rig, the combination of a balancing beam com prising parallel spaced members having a fulcrum bar acrosstheir rear ends, a cap on which the bar of the beam is fulc-rumed, braces extendinng from said cap, a post supporting said cap, a weight strapped on said beam members, a stirrup supporting the front. ends of the beam members. a link from which the stirrup is suspended, a loop at the end of the link, a pair of parallel bars forming an extension and on which the loop sin is fulcrumed, and means for securing said extension bars to a Walking beam.
3. In a counterbalance for a Jumping rig, the combination of a balancing cam having a fulcrum bar at its rear end, a cap on which the said bar is it'ulcrumed, braces extending from said cap, a post supporting said cap, a weight secured on said balancing beam, vertical guide posts between which said beamswings, a stirrup; supporting the front end of the balancing beam, and a link adapted to be pivoted to a Walking beam and from which the stirrup is suspended.
4. In a counterbalance for a pumping rig,
