This invention relates to rain coats. Objects of this invention are to provide a rain coat which is formed with a collarpassing over the back of the wearer as a continuation of the lapels and lying flatly acrossthe back of the coat under normal conditions without wrinkling or puckering so that it will provide additional protection for the coat across the back.
Further objects are to provide a novel form of collar which normally lis l'lat but -which may be nevertheless, drawn over the head and hat of the wearer and eonstricted by means of a draw string providing a restricted face opening with the terminal portions of the lapels juxtaposed and approximately vertical so that bunching or-pucker ing at the chin or neck portion of the wearer will not occur. i An embodiment of the' invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of the rain coat with the collar laid out flat. Figure 2 is a rear view thereof. l5 Figure 3 is a view showing the collar lturned up over the head and hat or cap of the wearer.
Referring to the drawings,'it will be seen that the coat comprises the body portion 1 l provided with sleeves 2 and with lapels 3.
It is further rovided with a relatively large collar 4 which forms a continuation of the lapels and normally extends down over the back of the coat in a smooth and fiat condition. It is to be noted, particularl from reference fo Figure 1 that the lape s are partially separated from the collar by means of notches 5. These notches provide abrupt ends or terminal ortions 6 for the 40 collar for a purpose whic will hereinafter appear. One of the lapelsis rovided with.`
a buttonliole 7 and the other apel, as indiycated in Figure 3sis provided with a button p 8 so that the lape may be overla ped when desired, and buttoned or otherwise secured to ther.
he collar rtion is provided with a sheath around its entire marginal ed e and a draw strin 9 is positioned withm the sheath, and 1s preferably provided with knotted or` enlarged ends to prevent inadvertent drawing of the draw strings into the sheath.
It is to be understood Lthat the coat lapels and collar are, to be made of a Water proof material.
Under normal conditions, the collar isV worn in the manner indicated in Figures 1 and 2, and thusy protects the shoulders and back. lHowever, when it is desired, to use the collar to protect the head and hat or cap of the wearer as'indicated in Figure 3, it 1s,
thus bunching of the material at the throat or chin of the wearer is prevented. In-
Y stead, a verycomfortable condition exists and the garment is not rendered bulky at this point.
It will be seen that a novel form of rain `coat has been provided which is so con structed that the collar normall Xhangs y iiat across the back of the wearer, ut may be quickly turned up over the head and hat of the wearer and drawn into the position indicated in Figure 3.
Further, it is to be noted as described above, that even when the collar is used in this position, it is perfectly comfortable to the wearer4 and bunching of the material at.
the throat or neckvof the wearer is avoided.
Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as illustrative rather than limiting as the invention may be variously embodied and as the scope of such invention is to be determined as claimed.
I claim:
A Arain coat comprising a body portion having an o en front 'provided with lepels, an elon ate collar forming a continuation of said apels and normally extending in a iiat conditiondownwardly across the back of the coat, said lcollar having a sheath in its edge extending from the front ends of the collar completely around the back of the collar, a draw string extending freely and completely through said sheath and having projecting ends, said lepels and collar ,be-
ing partially seperated by notches Which collar approximately vertical enel junta,- form abrupt terminal portions for the c01- posed.
lar, the ends of the drew string projecting In testimony that I claim the foregoing I from the collar at said notches whereby the have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in collar may be pulled over the hat lend head the county of Milwaukee and State of' Vlisof n wearer and the draw string may be cousin.
tightened anni tied to form a restricted face opening with the terminal portions of the FRA TMIBORELLU.
