Integral with the slider 28, or fixed firmly thereto, is a connecting member 30 having a straight portion 31 rigidly connected with the slider 28, an offset 32, and an arm 33 parallel to the slider 28', which arm is provided with an aperture 34; The offset. 32 brings the arm 33 adjacent the side of the standard 13 where the arm 33 may be provided with additional support for sliding movement in the form of a bracket 35, having a groove 36 to receive the arm The bracket may be fixed to the standard 13 with screws or any convenient fastening means.
The standard 13 may be extended upward a suflicient length to project out of the sanitary receptacle to be used with the conveying device and the standard 13 is provided at its upper end with a horizontal handle 37 which may be of any convenient shape for the purpose of enabling an operator to support the device in one hand. The standard 13 is provided upon the side having the arm 33 and bracket 36 with a lever 38 supported for pivotal movement upon the standard 13 by a screw post 39, and the lever 38 is provided with a reduced portion of slightly smaller size than the aperture 34 in the arm 33 and projecting into said aperture. The lever 38 is also'provided at its upper end with a substantially fiat portion 40 for the purpose of manipulation by the thumb or other digit when the device is supportedby the handle 37 It will be observed that when the lever 38 is actuated in a clockwise manner, as shown in Figure 6, the slider 28 will be actuated to the left, actuating the upper pinion (Figure 5) clockwise and the lower pinion in a counter clockwise direction. The closures 26 below the ring 11 will. then be actuated by the shafts 23 to the position shown in Figure 3, opening the aperture in the middle of the mug 11 and substantially removingthe floor 'or basefrom the said ring.
The ring 11 is provided'with a plurality of upwardly projecting journals 41 for the purpose of pivotally supporting a plurality of folding fingers 42, normally projecting ra dially' from the ring 11. The journals 41 may consist of the usual split blocks of metal having a bore 66 to provide a bearingfor the reduced circular portion 43 of the shaft 44. The shaft 44 is provided at each end with a beveled gear pinion 45, which may be integral with the said shaft or keyed thereto. and the pinions 45 of the adjacent shafts 44 are so located as to mesh with each other and with similar pinions 46 located upon an ac tuating pinion 47.
The shafts 44 are each provided with a flat portion extending between the journals 41 for the purpose of fixing to each shaft a finger 42 by means of screws 67, or any convenient fastening means. The fingers 42 consist of substantially rectangular plates of metal having their internal portions removed in order to reduce the excess weight of the device, and the fingers 42 have a slight upward curvature as shown in Figure 1, so that when in open position they extend radially from the ring 11 and slightly upward forming a framework like a shallow receptacle.
The exact number of the lingers 42 may be varied considerably, but for the usual size of sanitary receptacles, I find that the num ber shown is suilicient to adequately support the envelope thereon and fold the same, as will be further explained. The fingers 42 each being lixed to a shaft 44 having a pair of beveled pinions 45, it will, be obvious that all of the fingers will. move together when actuated by the actuating pinion 47. The actuating pinion 47 may consist of a pinion of the usual type supported between a pair of journals 4i for actuation by a rack 48,
which is mounted for reciprocation within the channel of the standard 13.
The standard 13 is provided with an aperture 49 in its web beneath the handle 37 and the rack 48 is provided with a rcarwardly projecting handle 50 substantially parallel to the handle 37 and projecting through the enlarged aperture 9 in such manner that. the handles 37 and 50 may be pressed together by the fingers. thereby lifting the rack 48, actuating the pinion 47 and the pinions 45, as well the fingers 42. The lingers 42 are thereby moved to the petitions shown in Figurcr 2 and The standard 13 is provided with a plate 51 covering the upper end of the U shaped channel and enclosing the rack 48 therein for reciprocation within the channel, and in order to bias the fingers 42 to the position shown in Figure 1, I provide a spring 52 which is compressed between the upper end of the rack 48 and the handle 37 which Closes the upper end of the channel.
The pinions 45, journals 41 and lower portions of the fingers are preferably enclosed and covered by an annular casing member consisting of a flat ring o t metal having an internal annular flange 54 and a plurality of external annular tianges 55 extending over the journals 41 between each pair of fingers 42. The ring 53 of course. cut away sulliciently as at 56 adjacent the linger 42 to permit the desired extent of movement of these parts, and the ring 53 may be provided at its rearward edge with an upwardly projecting casing member 57 which is adapted to partially enclose the mechanism supported on the standard 13.

My invention contemplates the use ofenvelopes or other pliable enclosing means with the convcying device 10 forthe reception of refuse and I' employ the term-envelope throughoutthis specification and claims in the generic sense including all types of pliable or flexible enclosing fabrics which may hie-used for the purpose described.

The method of operationr of my sanitary receptacle is as follows:

While the embodiment which I have chosen =to ill'listrateshows my invention curbodied in a particular type of sanitary receptacle; I desire it to be understood that my invention is not limited to this type of receptacle, and is of general application to receptacles fOI-I'EIEUSG of all-kinds, such as aroused in doctors" oifices for receiving bandages gauze or other refuse, Wherever it is desiredto eliminatecleaning of the permanent receptacle; It will thus be ohserved' that I' h'ave invented improvementsin sanitary receptacles whereby refuse may be received therein and conveyed to points desired, Without soiling the same or Without necessity for cleansing operations.
lVhile I have invented and described a specific embodiment of my invention, many modifications may be made therein Without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not wish to be limited to the precise details of the structure set forth, but desire to avail myself of all changes Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim is new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the UnitedStates is:
' 1. In a device of the class described, the
combination of an open supporting frame having an'upwardly extending handle, with closure means for closing the bottom of said frame to form a support, a sanitary envelope supported upon said closure means, and means extending from said frame about said closure to support the outer edges of said envelopeandto fold the same upward.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of an open supporting frame having an upwardlyextending handle, with closure means for closing the bottom of said frame to form a support, a sanitary envelope supported upon said closure means, means extending from said frameabout said closure to support the outer edges of said envelope and to fold the same upward, and manual means for actuating said closure to open position to discharge said envelope.
3. In combination with a. receptacle, a Water proof envelope, means for supporting said envelope in receptive position in said receptacle, means for folding said envelope upon said supportin means, and means for removing said enve ope and support from said receptacle. a
4. In combination with a receptacle, a Water proof envelope, means for supporting said envelope in receptive position in said receptacle, means for folding said envelope upon said supportingmeans, means for removing said envelope and supportfrom said receptacle, and means for dischargin said envelope from said supporting means.
5. In .a sanitary receptacle, the combination of a receptacle having an aperture in its upper surface, an overhanging flange bounding said aperture, a pliable envelope supported beneath said aperture and extending under said flange in substantially all directions, means for supporting said envelope, andmanual meansfor removing said envelope and support from said receptacle. 6. In a sanitary receptacle, the combination of a receptacle having an aperture in its upper surface, an overhanging flange bounding said aperture, a substantially flat, destructible, Water proof envelope having a plurality of folds in its outer edges'to facilitate folding, supported. beneath raid aperture and extending under said flange in substantially all directions, means for sup porting said envelope, and manual means for removing said envelope and support from said receptacle.
7. In a device of the class described, an open supporting frame comprising :1 (lat ring having a projecting plate. a plurality of closures supported. on said plate for pivotal movement to close said frame. cat-h closure being provided with a shaft and pinion, an upright standard supported on said plate, a handle upon said standard, a sliding rack engaging said pinions and a lever pivoted pon said standard and having operative connection with said rack whereby said closures may be actuated by pressing upon said lever with a digit adjacent said handle.

In a device of the class described, an open framework comprising a flat ring, an upright standard supported upon said ring, a handle on said standard, a plurality of journals supported in juxtaposition upon said ring, a plurality of horizontally extending pinions pivotally supported in said journals, an operating pinion journalled adjacent said standard, operative connections between said fingers and said pinion, a rack supported for sliding movement in said standard to engage said pinions, and manual means adjacent said handle to actuate said rack.
9. In a device of the class described, the combination of an open supporting frame having an upwardly extending handle, with closure means for the bottom of said frame to form a support, said closure means comprising a pair of doors pivotally mounted for sliding movement relative to said frame, asanitary envelope supported upon said closure means, and manual means for sliding said closure means from under said envelope to discharge said envelope.
10. In combination with a receptacle, a Water proof envelope, a removable supporting frame for holding said envelope in receptive position in said receptacle. and means on said frame for removing said envelope from said receptacle and discharging the same from said frame.
