Be itknown that I, JOSEPH JAMES, ot' the township of Bosauquet, county of Lambton, province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, farmer, have invented a Bag'Holder, of which the following is a specification M y invention relates to bag-holders made in such a manner that the bag-holder is fixed to a fanning-mill, or any other mill, as required. It consists in an U shaped arm, one end of which enters into a catch screwed to one of the sides of a fanning-mill. Its branch passes through a notched catch, and it has at its other end a link holding an elliptical springhoop, the ends of which are clasped together. The object of my invention is to hold a bag while it is filling with fanned grain or with flour, as the case may be, and by its means the mouth of the bag is saved from being torn or from falling, and the aid of a man to hold up the bag is dispensed with.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bagholder. Fig. 2 shows the clasps clasping together the two ends of the elliptical springhoop. Fig. 3 is a top view of the bagholder.

A (Fig. 1) is the side of a fanning mill, to which the bag-holder is fixed by means of screwed catchers. B is an m-shaped arm or branch, having a wedged-shaped tip, a, entering and working in the catch 0, screwed to one of the sides ofa fanning-mill, or any other mill. The branch B has near its middle a project-ion, 1), next the notched catch E, through which it passes, and by which it is held, and is fixedinto the catch E. This catch E has two notches c and (1, into which the branch 13 is set, according to the height the bag requires, and it is also screwed to the fanningmill. The branch B has a back spring, F, passing through the notched catch E, by these means pushing and holding the branch B into the notches c or d of the catch E. At the other end of the branch B is a link, D, holding an elliptical spring-hoop, G. This spring-hoop Gr opens and clasps, having an outside clasp, e, fixed to its outside end, and an inner clasp, f, fixed to its inside end. H is a bag, the border of which is turned over and round the elliptical spring-hoop G.

To make use of the bag-holder to fill up bags with any fanned grain or flour, the arm or branch B is first passed through the notched catch E, and its wedged tip a is entered into the catch 0; then the branch B is set into one of the notches c or d of the notched catch E, where it-ispushed in and held fast by the backsprin'g F, and kept from moving by its projection I). Then the bag H is passed through the elliptical spring-hoop G; its border or month is turned over and round the springhoop G, and the spring-hoop G, by distending itself, stretches the mouth of the bag H, and keeps it tight and open while a person throws into the bag H the fanned grain or the flour.

The bag-holder B can be set at the height required, or to suit the man filling it. It is very strong, and holds up easily a two-bushel bag full.

Having described my invention, what I claim is Abag-holder constructed with an adjusta ble holdingspring, Gr, an arm or branch, B, having a wedgeshaped tip, a, and projection 11, held with capability of adjustment in a catch, E, by means of a spring, F, substantially as and for the purposes shown and described.
