This invention relates to Window regulators and has for its object an improvement in anvindow regulator of the lever type. Regulators of this type are old, and the objective aimed at by the manufacturer 1s I simplicity'in construction so that the producshowing in dotted lines the window regulator installation. v

The details ofcthe clutch do not form a part of this invention and the details need not be explained. A cup-shaped clutch housing 7 is secured to the regulator plate and houses the clutch parts, and a crank-handle Serial No. 54,608.

The toothed regulator quadrant or segment is pivoted to theregulator plate as at h and the lever arm i is riveted or otherwise secured to the quadrant and is provided at its free end with a roller 7' that engages in the sash bar channel is carried by the window. Obviously the rocking of the quadrant by turning the crank handle will cause the window to be raised or lowered.
V Fig. 6 shows the construction ofthe window regulator plate which is provided with the punched-out lip or ear m. which is offset in a plane slightly removed from the plane of the regulator plate. The toothed regulator quadrant when assembled to the regulator plate is adapted to be fitted under this ofi'set ear. Carried by this ofi'set ear is a punched-in depression or boss or point 'n which'is adapted to frictionally engage the exposed side of the regulator quadrant. Also the punched-out depression or boss or point 0 in the main body of the regulator plate is arranged in such a manner as to frictionally engage the underside of the regulator quadrant. This is quite clearly shown in Fig. 4. These frictional bosses or points will frictionally. engage the regulator quadrant and prevent the quadrant from rattling or vibrating between the plate and the ofi'set ear, This provides a regulator construction which eliminates the rattling of the moving parts, as any unnecessary rattling isquite annoying to the automobile owner, yet the amount of frictionis very small due to the small surface.
At the bottom edge of the regulator plate the projection p is bent up as shown clearly in Figs. 2 and 4. The regulator quadrant is secured to the stud g, said stud being rotatably supported in the regulator plate and provided with a slot 1'. 1. In awindow regulator the combination of a regulator plate formed of a stamping, and a regulator segment supported thereby, said regulator-plate having one or more points stamped therein which are adapted to frictionally engage the regulator segment.
2. In a window re lator, the combination of a regulator p ate, and a regulator (segment supported thereby, said plate provided with anear struck out from said plate and offset therefrom whereby the segment may be engaged between the said ear and the mam body portion of pose of guiding the outer regulator segment.

In a window regulating mechanism, a plate, a driven gear mounted for rotation on the plate, 'a drive pinion'meshing with said'gear, a shaft for said pinion, an offset for holding the gear portion on said plate forming a bearing for I said shaft, said portion? being of substantially the thickness of-the pinion and providing an integral tongue, and a detent .on the end portion of said tongue frictional? to engage the surface of said gear for M1 ing the gear against lateral displacement.
9. In a window regulator mechanism, a sheet metal plate, a driven gear carried by the plate in engagement with one side thereof, and for rotary movements relative thereto, said plate carrying an offset member forming a pinionhous ng and having a por-I tion which frictionally co-acts with the mm portion of the gear inopposrtion to the plate to brace the gear against lateral movements, a shaft journaled in the offset member carried by the plate, shaft within the ofiset member and in driva pinion carried by the ing mesh with the gear, and means in fixed relation to the plate and forming another bearing for thefj'shaft.
10. In a window regulating mechanism, a plate, a driven gear mounted for rotation on the plate, a drive pinion meshing with said gear, a shaft for said pinion and an offset member on said plate forming a bearing for said shaft, said member having a part spaced from the said plate substantially the thickness of the pinion and providing a portion frictionally to engage said gear for holding the gear against lateral displacement.
11. In a window regulating mechanism, a plate, a driven gear mounted for rotation on the plate, a drive pinion meshing with said gear, ashaft for said pinion, an offset member on said plate forming a bearing for said shaft, said member having a part spaced from the plate substantially the thickness of the pinion and providing a sur-- face forv lying along side of said pinion while a surface of said plate lies along the other side of said pinion, and a detent in one of said surfaces to engage the surface of said gear and prevent its moving away from the said surface that lies on the other side of the gear.
12. In a window regulating mechanism, a plate, a driven gear mounted on one side of said plate to rotate thereon, a drive pinion supported to rotate said gear by meshing tion off-set from the plate and forming a bearing for said shaft, and a portion of said member spaced from the plate to engage said gear for holding the oral displaced movement. 14. A unitary window regulator assembly comprising in combination, a plate, a relatively large sheet metal driven gear segment carried by the plate in engagement with one side thereof, a drive pinion, shafts for said gear and pinion spacedto cause meshing of the teeth thereof, and a member carried by said plate having a portion positioned to lie immediately over the outside surface of said gear and pinion where they mesh to retain the teeth in co-acting relation and prevent rattling of the moving parts.
15. A unitary window regulator assembly comprising in combination, a plate, a relagear against lattively large sheet metal driven gear segment with stamped out teeth carried by the-plate in engagement with one side thereof, a drive pinion, shafts for said gear and pinion spaced to cause meshing of-the teeththereof, and means carried by said ;plate positioned to lie immediatel over and contacting with the outside sur ace of said gear adjacent said pinion and 'within the vicinity of the point of contact of the teeth of the gear and pinion to hold the teeth in co-acting relation in the same plane.
16. In a window regulator, the combination with a mountingplate, of a gear seg ment pivoted upon said mounting plate, a lifter arm connected to said segment and adapted to be operatively connected to a window, a gear member upon said mounting plate meshing with said gear segment, and a struck out tongue upon said mounting plate and engaging the side of said gear segment opposite git v engaged by said mounting plate.
