My present invention is an improvement in the thigh reducer or controller feature of the'type of corsets or corset brassieres disclosed in myvprior Patent 1,488,209, of March The principal object of my present invention is to providea thigh reducer or controller in the nature of a belt connecting the lower sides of the garment together, such belt --being adjustable independently of the ad- 'ustment of the garment and of the abdominal belt thereof, whereby the action of the thigh reducer is rendered independent of the abdominal belt, whereby the controller belt may be adjusted closely, while the garment and abdominal belt are adjusted loosely and vice versa, and whereby strains of movements of the thigh controller incident tothe various postures of the figure are possible without transmission of undue strains to the garment and .without afl'ecting the adjust- 'ment of the garment or of the abdominal belt.

With these and other objects in view as 26 will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In the drawings g Figure 1 is a general view showing a corset brassiere in which the invention is embodied.

Figure 2 showsthe bra-ssiere opened and laid out flat.

Although I show and describe the embodiment of the invent-ion in a corset brassiere, it will be understood that the invention is equally applicable to a corset. V

The garment in general, may be constructed 40 substantiall as described in my prior patent,

and in the d escription of the garment hereinafter given, I will refer only to those portions which are necessary to give an understanding of the invention.

Referring more particularly to'the draw,- ings, the garment in general, includes a soft fabric outer portion 10 which completely encircles the body. At the sides of the body, the garment is split up to the waist line 50 W-L, and the adjacent edges on each side of. the splits are provided with eyelets 14, 14 and ,slde lacing connections. 15, 15. The elastic sections 16, 16 .may overlie the upper portions of-the split sides. An abdominal'belt 20 has eyelets 21, 21. at .its ends through-which the side lacing connections 15 pass for supporting the belt,

the same ,laci'ngs thus supporting the abdominalbelt which connect the edges of the garment on each side of the splits together, as shown in my prior. patent. As therein alsoset forth, the ends of the belt are connected with the side lacing connections at such points higher up or lower down as is found most suited to the wearer.

My prior patent shows elastic thigh sections setin the front adjoining the lower edges of the splits, to provide necessar yielding points when the wearer is seate and causing the corset to fit the body at a lower point. My prior patent further shows the outer edges of the elastic thigh sections as being connected to the adjacent edges of the split sides by the same lacings which connect the edges of the split sides of the 7 garment together.

Myv present invention departs from this prior constructionwith respect to the thigh 1 section.

According. to my present invention the thigh controller or reducer, indicated genera ly'at 22, is in the nature of a belt, the ends ofwhich may be connected-to thesides of the garment, further around to the sides than the split edges'23 thereof, as for instance, by rows of stitches 24:. Thus the end portions of the thigh controller belt overlie the lower portionsof the split side portions of the garment, and are discon nected from these lower side portions save at the vertical rows of stitches 24, and at the horizontal lower. rows of stitches 25 which may be used to connect the lower edges of the ends of the belt to the lower edges of the garment as shown. The thigh controller belt thus forms a continuation of the lower portions of the garment. This belt is divided, preferably at the middle, as at 26, and the sections 27'28 of the belt thus formed, may be connected together by adjustable loo and beyond the medial horizontal line of the belt.

By this construction, elasticity is given to the lower portion of the controller belt, this elasticity increasing .as the lower edge of the belt is approached, while the upper portion of the belt is non-elastic, but is pliable.

The controller belt is so disposed that its I upper portion will overlie the lower portion of the abdominal belt 20, in ordinary posltions of adjustment of the latter. The front portion 34 of the garment to which the supporter-tabs 35. are connected, in turn overlies the thigh controller belt, and tape-rs downwardly from the lower ends of the series of eyelets 14c.

From the foregoing it will be observed that the controller belt forms a continuation of the lower side portions of the garment,

that its upper edge and its lower edge are disconnected from the garment, that it is adjustable in length, that it has an increasing elasticity as its lower edge is approached, that it overlies the abdominal belt and underlies the front skirt portion of the garment, and that its edges are concaved. It is to be understood that' while I recite these features, I do not intend to imply that all or a combination of any particular one or more of them is essential to the invention, it being my purpose by such recitation merely to clearly set forth the description of the particular embodiment of the invention herein shown.

Some of the advantages that may be noted as accruing to my invention are as follows;

The adjustment of the thigh controller belt is independent of the adjustment of the sides of the garment and of the abdominal belt and the controller belt may be adjusted closely, at the same time that the abdominal belt or the sides of the garment are adjusted loosely, and vice versa. Further, by having the controller belt form a continuation of the sides or" the garment, a greater area-is afiorded in the thigh controller in taking up strain due to the change in positions, and the resultant effect of transmitting the strains in less degree to the garment. 7 Further by having the controller belt unconnected from the front portion of the garment, the smoothness of line of part of the garment is increased, hebel being substantially hidden beneath the front portion of the garment when in use, and movements of the belt in conforming to the positions of the figure take place beneath the front portion of the garment, and hence the lines of the garment are not disarranged incident to such movements. By having the ends of the controller belt set further around towards the sides than the split edges of the side portions of the garment, and being free from said suchsplit edges, greater range for the vertical independent adjustment of the" abdominal belt is provided, and again such pull as is transmitted to the lower, portion of the garment by close adjustment of the controller belt is transferred further around towards the sides of the garment,-and hence tends towards a more constant smoothness of the lower back portion of the garment, as well as the front thereof.

I have illustrated a side opening garment, but it will be understood that the invention is equally applicable to garments which open otherwise than at the side, for instance, at I the front or back.

The foregoing description has been given for clearness of understanding, and no undue limitations should be deduced therefrom, but the appended claims should be construed as broadly as permissible, in view of the prior art.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A corset having a body portion provided with a front slr-irt portion, the sides of the body portion extending down along the thighs of the wearer, a thigh controller belt 1 which extends below the abdomen and forms a continuation around the thighs of the lower side portions of the garment and disposed beneath and being disconnected from said frontskirt portion, said belt being divided, and connections adjustably connecting the sections of the belt together.

2. In a corset, the combination of a body portion, the lower sides of which are split, thereby forming a back portion and a front skirt portion, both of which extend down along the thigh of the wearer, an abdominal belt extending around the 'ab- ;domen of the wearer and connected to the portion, both of whichextend down along the thighs of the -wearer, an abdominal belt extending 3 around the abdomen of the wearer and a thi h controller belt located 5 lower down than t e abdominal belt and extending over the thighs of the wearer and forming a .forward continuation of the .lower side portions of the"garment, such the front thigh controller belt underlying b d eing is- 10 signature.
