A. M. ENGLISH MEASURE Filed' Sept. 16, 1925 gwuantoz:

Patented Dec. 2'7, 1927.
UNITED; STATES ANALDO M. ENGLISH, or nnooxmnn, MASSACHUSETTS.
MEASURE.
Application filed September 16, 1925. Serial No. 56,783.
The invention has for an object to embody a measuring device especially suited to the uses illustrated in my copending application, Ser. No. 19,721, filed liilarch 31, 1925, for measuring appliances for package filling machines, although it may be used in other situations'also. This application in part a continuation of said priorapplication.
It is a particular object to arrange a construction which will be self contained within symmetrical limits and accessible readily for capacity adjustment without requiring elements that would interfere with the peculiar operative mechanism shown in my said prior application. Also, it is very desirable in such a machine, and a further object, to provide means for adjusting the capacity of a receptacle of this character without requiring any element of the adjusting means to be located exteriorly of the receptacle. In this direction it is a particular object to enable the use of the simple structure including a bottom member having a wide range of adjustment engaged revolubly in threads Within the receptacle element, yet obviating necessity for exposure of these threads, at the same time that the elements are retained within moderate dimensional limits. Thereby, fouling of the threads by coated products or other materials having an adhesive and gumining tendency is avoided; and alsowhich is of much importance-the stock handled is protected from damage by the sharp edges of threads.
Additional. objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the construction, arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter described and Shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of one embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a cross section thereof on-an enlarged scale;
Figure 3 is a top view of the measure;
Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the measure;
Figure 5 is an elevation of the measure as it may be formed for hand manipulation. There is illustrated a cup body 10, having Figure 1 a stem 11 adapted to be The body 10 is of edge 14 of the wall of the cup is rounded,
and the exterior surfaces and the interior surfaces above the threads are smoothly finished.
Revoluble within the cup body 10 there i is an adjustable inner cup 15 including a cylindrical wall 16 and bottom 17, the al titude of this cup being approximately one half that of the interior of the cup body 10. Raised external threads 18 are formed on the cup 15, of the same size and pitch as those on the interior of the body 10, and the wall 16 is formed With a flare or rounded, outturned lip 19, finished to smoothly and slidably fit the wall of the body 10.
The cup 15 is screwed into the body 10 and adjusted so that the space in the cup 15 and within. the wall of the body 10 thereabove will. contain the desired quantity of stock. Where the bottom of the body 10 is left open a key-receiving means, as, a slot 20, may be formed in the bottom of the cup so that the latter may be rotated by a screwdriver or other key-like implement.
There is shown engaged through the bottom 16 a set screw 22, located opposite the stem 11 as close to the wall of the cylinder 10 as practicable, having'a head disposed below the bottom 13, and its inner end ar ranged to. bear against the bottom 17 of the inner cup. This serves'as a means to secure the cup 15 in adjusted positions by friction between the threads of the two members of the measure.
I claim:
In a device of the character described, a measuring device comprising an euterc' lim ear, having threads on the interior thereof at the inner part only, and an adjustable Wall being disposed in close relation to said bottom having external threads screwed into receptacle beyond the threads on the bottom the threaded part of said cylinder, said bota distance substantially equal to the range 10 tom having a Wall portion set away from of adjustment of the bottom.
5 the Wall of said cylinder and extending lon- In testimony whereof I aflix my signagitudinally beyond the threads on both cylture. v inde-rand bottom, the extreme edge of said Y ANALDO M. ENGLISH.
