This invention relates to improvements in dispensers and more particularly to that type used 1 for: delivering sugar or other granular substances and especiallyv designed-for table use;
It isanobject of this invent-ion to construct a dispensing attachment which? may be readily attached to containers now on the market-and which-may be manuallymanip ulaited to repeatedly deliver measuredquans tities of granular material from. the cone tainer as desired.
Another object of the invention is to providea simplified device of the character stated wherein the measuring recess, is so constructed and arranged that the side wall of the container forms a portion of the wall of said recess thereby lesseningrthe amount of material which it is necessary to use in manufacturing the attachment.
Still another object of the invention is tosimplify the construction of devices of this character, this'being done in part by shapinga plate of sheet metal in such a manner that aportionof said plate assists in walling in the-measuring compartment and another portion of' the. same plate forms a bearing for the shaft: orpivot pin whereon the dispensing elementrocks.
Other objects advantages and features of the invention may hereinafter appear.

Referring again to the inner plate 6 which forms the inside wall of the dispensing recess 3, said plate 6 is rigidly secured to the lower end of the shaft 9 and is so positioned with relation to the outer disc 10 that when,- ever any portion of the notch 14 of said disc is in register with the opening 15, said plate 6 will completely close the lower side of said recess 3; but when said notch is moved completely out of register with said opening 15, a farther movement of the measuring device in the same direction will cause the plate 6 to move out of register with the lower side of said recess. In order to regulate the extent of the rocking movement of the dispensing device, the plate 6 is provided withtwo stop ears 17 and 18 which are so positioned as to limit properly the rockingm'ovement of the manually operable elements.
In the form of the invention shown in Figs. 2 to 5, the wings 7 of the bent plate already referred to are connected at their outer ends by an arcuate plate 20 which completes the side walls of the measuring recess 3; but in the form of the invention shown in Figs. 6 and 7 the outer'portion of the'wall of'the recess is formed by the adjacent wall of the container 1. In both of these forms the plate having the wings 7 is so bent as to provide the bearing sleeve 8,-but in Figs. 6 and 7 the bent plate is provided with a neck portion 21 which unites said sleeve 8 with the'wings 7 In both forms of the invention the rockable measuring member comprises two plates which are spaced apart from each other, each of said plates being cut away to provide a feed, the cut away portion of one of said plates being'circumferentially spaced away 7 from the cut away portion of the other plate capacity.

Owing to the general similarity of construction between the two forms of the invention, the parts in F igs. 6' and 7 are lettered the same as the corresponding parts in the other views, the additional reference character 21 being applied to the neck or extension which is supplied in the form shown in Figs. 6 and? in order that the measuring recess be extended out to the periphery of the contalner and yetremain relatively small-in In the form of the invention shown'inFigs.

In a dispensing device, in combination, a container, a rockable measuring member comprising an outer and an inner plate, said plates being spaced apart from each other to provide room for a measuring recess between them, each of said plates being cut away to provide a feed, a measuring recess member consisting of a bent strip having a central portion shaped to form a bearing and having end portions spaced apart from each other thereby, producing limbs which form side walls of the measuring recess, the outer portion of the wall of the measuring recess being formed by a portion of the wall of the container, a pivot member in fixed relation to the container with which the bearing portion of said bent strip cooperates, and means to manually move said measuring member tofeed material in measured quantities from said container through the cut-away portions of said plates. 1

In a dispensing-device, in combination, a container having a cap, a plate mounted within the container and supported by said cap in spaced relation thereto to provide a measuring recess between said cap and plate, said cap and plate each having cut-away portions adjacent to the periphery of said container, said cut-away portions being circumferentially spaced apart, a pivot member supported by said cap, a measuring recess member consisting of a strip bent upon itself in such a manner that its end portions form V spaced apart limbs to provide side walls for the measuring recess, the periphery of the container forming the outer wall of said measuring recess and the central portion of said strip being bent to form a bearing which cooperates with said pivot member, said strip having between said bearing and its spaced apart limbs a neck portion wherein the two runs of the strip are secured to each other, and means to rock said measuring member to deliver measured quantities of material from the container.
