' VENEER BUCKET.

Application filed September The invention relates to a receptacle, and

more particularly to the class `of pails, buckets, or the like. v The primary object of the invention is the provision of a receptaclel of this'character, -designed especially for' containing dry materials, for example candy, wherein the body 4thereof is of multi-plyveneer, the plies being glued together with the grains of the fibre materialbeing disposed in reversed direction to assure maximum strength to the body, the latter being formed with an overlap seam 'and liooped, one or several of the same being made from like material from whichthe body is formed, the body, seam and hoop being tacked or stapled together, thus l,rendering the receptacle unitary.-

Another object of the invention is the provision of ai receptacle 4of this character,

wherein the body'tli'ereof is so constructed,

that the same will be prevented from warping and will possess a maximumdegree .of strength, to withstand the load or contents, the receptacle being open atl its 4top and has removably fitted thereon a cover, the latter being hooped marginally of the same, the said hoop being made from material corresponding to the material from which the body is made and which body is also hooped to reinforce the same at the bottom and top thereof. A further object of thev invention is the provision ofa receptacle of this character, which is extremely simple in construction thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, strong, durable and inexpensive to With these and other objects in view, the invention. consists of the features vof con'- struction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described in details, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, disclosing the preferred embodiment ofthe invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

Similar reference characters indicate corsingle unit consisting` of multi-plies of wood' veneer of uniform thickness, there being shown 1n this instance two plles, lncluding 'the outer ply 6 and the inner ply 7, although it is to be understood that the number of plies can be increased as the occasion may require in varying the size of the receptacle 'and theusage to which the same may be put or desired. The plies 5 and 6 are of uniform size with respect to each other and are joined together through thev medium of glue or4 other adhesive material and lhave their grains extending in reversed directions to each other to render the body of maximum strength and also to give thereto the veneer characteristics to prevent warping of said body or any deviation by deformity from the ori inal shape of the same.

vThe ody 5 tapers downwardly from its upper or open end toward the bottom to ef fect an inverted frusto-conical form, having the required depth 'accordingly to the demanded uses of the receptacle A. T he body 5 is of a one-piece form and the opposite end portions are overlapped and beveled as at 8 at the free edges. The overlap ofthe body 5 produces a longitudinal seam 9 throughout the length of said body and the overlapped portions are fastened together, in thisinstance'as shown, through the medium of tacks l() which are spaced apart and arranged in rows. It is, of course, to be understood that in lieu of the tacks 10 other elementsv may be employed to join the overlap of the body 5 at the seam 9.`

Arranged within the body 5' slightly spaced from the bottom edge thereof is a bottom 11, in this instance being shown made from multi-ply material veneered in a manner corresponding to the body 5. Circumscribingl or encircling the body 5 exteriorly thereof are upper and lower hoops 12 and 13, respectively. The hoop 12v which conlll() fronts the lower edge of the body 5 is preferably made from met-al, with the overlapped ends riveted to each other and this hoop is fastened to the body through the meupper hoop 13 is made from multi-ply ve neer material corresponding to the material of the body 5. The ends of the hoop 13 are overlapped and fastened together through the medium of tacks 15, although other fasteners maybe used in lieu thereof. This hoop 13 is fastened to the body 5 in a like manner as is the hoop 12.

The cover or top B is preferably made from a solid board section 16 correspondingly shaped to the upper open end of the body 5 and carries marginally thereof -a hoop 17 constituting a rim to be telescoped upon the body 5. This hoop .17 is made from multi-ply veneer wood corresponding to the hoop 13 and 'is fastened to the section 16 through the medium ofthe tacks or nails 18, althoughother fasteners may be substituted in lieu thereof. The inner face of the section 16 adjacent to the hoop 17 is circumferentially channelled to provide an annular countersink or seat 19 for the free edge of the body 5, whenthe cover or top B is placed thereon and the rim 17 of the same telescoped upon said body, thus making a tight joint between the receptacle A and the cover or top B as will be clearly apparent in Figure 2 of the drawing.

' Placed diametrically opposite and passed through the upper hoop 13 to the body 5 of the receptacle A are staples 20 formed with eye-like portions 21 in which are looselyengaged the loop terminals 22 of a bail or handle 23, which is of conventional form having the usual centrally located wood rolllike grip 24, whereby the receptacle A can be carried in the hands while transporting it from one point to another.

The'staples 20 are clinched at their free ends against the inner face of the body 5 so as to permanently mount such staples inthe receptacle A.

The receptacle A is designed especially to contain dry material and by altering the character of wood plies it may be used for the storage of butter or other like materials.

It will be apparent that by reason of the construction of the receptacle `by the use of the veneered material, the same Will be of cementitious material and having the end edges thereof oppositely beveled, said unit further having the end terminal portions spaced thereof overlapping, superposed means extending through said overlapping portion for fixedly securing them together, a bottom arranged within said body portion above' the lower end thereof, a hoop surrounding and secured to the lower end of said body portion, a hoop of multiply veneer surrounding and secured to said body portion in proximity to thev upper end thereof and providing a4 seat for the rim of a cover and diametrically disposed bail coupling staples anchored in said upper hoop of the bo y portion.
