Application fue@ my 31, 192e. serial No. 126,326.
The invention relates to toys and has as an object the provision of a toy animal or bird which when drawn along a supporting sulface will have a movement of the limbs and `a lifelike motion of the body of the toy.
A further object of the invent-ion is the yprovision of a supporting wheel for such a toy designed to give the lifelike motion referred to.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevation;
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view;
Figure 3 is a vertical section on line 3 3 of Figure 1 on an enlarged scale;
Figure i is a detail vert-ical section on line 4--4 of Figure 3.
" As shown the device has a body l which for the purpose of illustration is made in the outline of a duck and a exible member 11 is shown attached to the body as by means of a staple 12 for traction. i To cause a waddle of the body by elevating first one side and then the other thereof, there is shown a wheel 13 housed in a recess 14 in the lower side of the body 10 pivoted upon an axis 15, f As shown the wheel comprises two circular discs 16, 17, eccentrically mounted upon the axis 15, the eccentricities of the two discs being diametrically related to each other. rThe discs 16, 17, are preferably rigidly secured together. When thefbody 10 is drawn f along the surface 18, the projecting portions of the two discs will alternately contact with the surface slightly lifting the body first in one lat-eral direction and then in the other whereby to cause the lifelike waddle above referred to.
To add a lifelike appearance to the toy,l
legs 19, 2O are loosely pivoted upon the two sides of the body as by means of screws 21, 22, washers 23, 24, being dcsirably provided to assist the freedom of motion of the legs. The lower ends of the legs 19, 20, are formed to simulate feet at 25, 26, which feet are is rigidly carried by each of the feet and the pins project through slots 31, 32, in the side gval'lQsSof the recess 14 into the paths of cams The cams 27, 28, are rigidly secured to the wheel 13. It will therefore be seen upon inspection of Figure 4 that the pins 29, 30 will be forced rearwardly thereby oscillating the feet 25, 26, and the corresponding legs rearwardly as the body is tilted until the corresponding pinV escapes from the nose of the cam when the operated leg will return to its normal position by gravity.
By providing the wheel 13 formed of two circular discs, the same may be very readily manufactured by the expedient of producing a large number of like discs and assembling two of the same in the described relation for each wheel. rllhe operation of the device will be clear from the above description.
Minor changes may be made in the physical embodiment of the invention within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit thereof.
I claim:
1. A toy comprising, in combination, a body having a recess therein, a wheel journaled to rotate on an axis in said recess and porting surface, said wheel comprising like disks rigidly secured in contact with each Y other and eccentrically on said axis, the eccentricity of said disks being out of register whereby to cause oscillation of said body during progression thereof. Y
2. A toy comprising, Vin combination, a body having a recess therein, a wheel journaled to rotate on an axis in said recess and projecting therefrom to contact with a supporting surface, said wheel comprising like disks rigidly secured in contact with each other and eccentrically on said axis, the eccentricity of said disks being diametrically 'opposite whereby to cause oscillation of said body during progression thereof.'
3. A ligure toy comprising, in combination, a body simulating an animate ligure, a supporting wheel journaled thereon, a cam surface carried by said wheel, a member freely pivoted on said body, having a part projecting into the path of movement of said cam and adaptedto be moved rearwardly by said cam whereby to simulate walking movement of said member.
