UNITED STATES GEORGE F. KRENGEL, OF FRANKFORT, INDIANA.
CI-ICKEN-ROOST HANGER.
Application filed November 9, 1926. Serial No. 147,284.
said invention relates to a hanger for supporting a chicken or poultry roost and it is an object oi' the invention to provide a simple and inexpensive roost hanger having ineans for preventing insects such as mites or the like `troni getting on the roost from the wall ot the house in which the roost is inounted.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are inade a part hereoit` and on which similar reference characters indicate similar 1g .re 1 is a side elevation illustrating the application ot iny invention, and
Figure 2 is a siniilar enlarged 'fragmentary detail view.
1n the drawings reference character 10 indicates the upright sides of a chicken house or coop, 11 a roost and 12 a hanger or bracket tor supporting thc saine.
T he hanger or bracket 12 comprises asubstantially flat base, one of which inay be attached by wood screws 13 or the like to each sido of the chicken coop and rsaid flat base is provided with an npstanding boss or lug having one end provided with an opening forming a cup 14E and a. central depression 15 tor the reception of the. extremity of a suliiporting wire 16. The supporting wire 1G is curved in substantially U-shape and is disposed in inverted position with one end extending downwardly a greater distance and bent to receive t-he end of the perch or roost 11. The lower roost engaging end of the wire 16 is bent at right angles te its body then upwardly and inwardly at a slight angle, thence rearwardly parallel to the right-angular portion and with its free end ektending downwardly and inwardly theretroin. rThe cup 111 is adapted to be illed with oil to prevent mites which get on the door and side walls of ,the chicken coop or house 'from crawling onto the perch or roost 11 and along the wire 16. Since the depending portion of the wire 16 which supports the roost is spaced troni the bracket 12 chickens or other owls will not be perinitted to rub against the wall of the chicken house and therefore no mites or other pests can reach the chickens when they are on the roost.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be inade in iny device without departing froin the spirit ot the invention and therefore l do not liinit myself to what is shown in the drawings and described in the speciiication but only as indicated in the appended claims.
Having thus fully described iny said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. The. combination of a bracket, a. recess provided in said bracket and forming an oil cup. a socket in the bottom ot said recess, and a roost supporting element of substantially U-shape and having one end :tor engagement in said socket and its other end formed tor supportingl a roost, said roost supporting end comprising a pair of horizontal portions spaced longitudinally oi? the roost, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination with a bracket having a recess forming an oil cup and a socket in the bottoni o12 the recess, of a roost supporting element having one end arranged to lit snugly in said socket and curving over and downwardly with its lower portion twisted to provide a non-circular portion to fit snugly about a roost ior preventing the tilting of the saine1 substantially as set forth.
3. The combination with a bracket having a recess forming an oil cup and a socketin the bottoni of the recess, ot a roost supporting element having one end arranged to tit snugly in said socket and curving over and downwardly with its lower portion twisted to provide a non-circular portion to iit snugly about a roost Jfor preventing the tilting of the saine the twisted portion oi' the roost supporting element being disposed bclow said bracket and permitting the roost to swing, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto setniy hand at Frankfort. Indiana,tl1is 2nd day of November, A. D.nineteen hundred and twenty-six.
