This invention relates to pile Wires ofthe type including a pile shearing blade at one end, and the principal object of the invention is to provide novel cuttingmeans insuring effectiveness in shearing the pile loops.
A more specific object of the invention is to provide a pile Wire with two blades arranged longitudinally of the Wire so that in the event that one is inoperative the other will insure the cutting of the pile loops.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a primary cuttingl means in the form of a detachable blade which may be periodically renewed.
The invention further resides in novel means for retaining this detachable cutting blade in position in the pile Wire;

Referring to the drawingathe pile wire l may in general be of the usual form and may comprise at its end an integral elevation 2 presenting an inclined edge 3 adapted to be sharpened and to constitute a cutting edge. In the present instance, the extremity 4c of the Wire is turned out transversely from the plane of the Wire. The blade in so far as described is similar to the type of blade now in general use.
vAdjacent the bottom of the cutting edge 3, the pile Wire is provided in its upper edge With a longitudinal slot 5 adapted to receive a separately formed cutting blade 6, this blade being `in the present instance substantially triangular' in forni and being arranged in slots so that one edge 7 which is adapted to be sharpened inclines np- Wardly from the upper edge of the Wire toward the adjacent end of the latter. 7, the blade 6 is provided in the present instance with tivo slots 8, 8 which are adapted to receive a pair of pins 9, 9 extending transversely across the slot 5. vThe recesses 8 are inclined from the vertical so that the pressure of the pile loops against the cutting edge 7 in the normal manipulation of the pile Wire will have a tendency `to Wedge the blade more tightly in the slot 5 and against the `pins 9 whereby the tendency for the blade to be forced out of the slot is eliminated. After insertion of the blade .7 in the slot 5, the sides of the latter maybe pinched in at both ends of the blade, as indicated at 1i, ll, so that the blade is more or less positively held in the slot. Removal of the blade when desired, however, is not prevented, and the blade may be replaced Wit-hout trouble when such replacement is found necessary. `llt will be noted that with this construction two cutting edges or blades 3 and 7' are provided, the primary cutting edge or the one which normally severs the pile loops being detachable to permit reneWal.
We claim:
1. A pile wire having adjacent one end a plurality of cutting edges arranged longitudinally of the Wire, the primary cutting able from the Wire.
2. A pile Wire comprising at one end an integral upwardly inclined cutting edge and having adjacent said cutting edge a slot in the upper edge thereof for the reception of a second and independently formed cutting blade.
3. A pile Wire comprising in its upper edge a slotted recess for the reception of a cutting blade, a 4pair of pins extending across said recess, and an independentcutting blade adapted to be mounted in said slot and having in its under edge recesses for the edge beine separately'formed and detachreception of said pins.
4. A pile wire comprising a slotted recess in its upper edge provided for the reception of an independently formed cutting blade, a plurality of pins projecting across said recess, and a cutting blade having recesses adapted to receive said pins, said recesses dependent" cutting `edges inclined upwardly being nclnedtoward tbe top from the ver from the top of the Wire and toward tbc tical toward that end of the cutting blade said end of the latter.
