SUPPORTING FIXTURE.

My invention relates to improvements in supporting fixtures, and it consists in the combinations,` constructions, and arrangements herein described and claimed.

An object of my invention is to provide a supporting lint-ure which has novel means tor holding day shades, night shades, curtains, drapes, valances, or the like.

it further object of my invention is to providea device ot the type described which may be rigidly held in place without the aid ot screws, nails, or other fastening means.

i further object of my invention is to provide a device ot the type described which has novel means tor holding rigidly the varous parts.

il further object of my invention is to provide a device ot the type described which may be used as a clothes rod.

Other objects and advantages will appear in the following speciiication, and the novel vfeatures ot the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device as applied to a window frame,

In carrying out my invention, I provide an inner tubular member 1 having a plurality or' aligned openings 2 therethrough. Outer tubular casings 3 and d are slidably disposed upon the inner tubular member 1. The tubular casing 3 is provided with a plurality otgrooves 5 which are equally spaced around the inner end thereof. The cup-shaped members 12 and 13 are provided with resilient walls 26 which taper inwardly. The walls 26 are provided with aligned slots 27 for receiving Varms 28. The arms 28 are bent outwardly at 29 forming abutting portions 30 for a purpose hereinafter described. rlhe arms 28 are again bent at right angles at 3l and are provided with arcuate-shaped recesses 32 for receiving curtain rods 32. Resilient friction pads 33 are forced Jfor a portion of their width into the cup-shaped members 12 and 13 until they abut against the arms 28.

From the foregoing description ot' the various parts ot the device, the operation thereo'tI may be readily understood. Let us assume that the various parts are assembled, as shown in Figure 1. ln applying the device to a window trame, the device is disposed in the desired location with the U- shaped members 10 and 11 removed. The tubular casings 3 and 11 are then moved with respect to the tubular member until `the friction pads 33 are in engagement with the inner Walls of the window trame indicated at Theil- shaped members 10 and 11 are then inserted into the openings adjacent the tubular casing l and the sleeve 6. The arms 28 are then moved so as to bring the abutting CIO portions 30 into engagement with the window frame. The nut 9 is then rotated upon the sleeve 6 and moved thereupon into engagement With the U-shaped retaining member 10. Bjr continuedrotationof the nut 9 upon the sleeve 6 toward the retainingmemher V10, the tubular casing 3, together with the sleeve 6, is forced in one direction, and the tubular member 10, together i with the tubular casing 4, is forced in the opposite direction, In this manner, the friction pads 33 are forced against the inner Wallsi of the Window `frame.
