Description

Dec. 20, 1927.
J. E. DEIMEL UNDERGARMENT SUPPORT Filed Feb. 12. 1927 Patented Dec. 20, 1927.
UNITED STATES JULIET E. DEIMEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
UNDERGABMENT SUPPORT.
Application filed February 12, 1927. Serial No. 167,616.
This invention relates to undergarment supporting means and has particular reference to a novel and improved shoulder strap for supporting a plurality of articles of wearing apparel.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a shoulder strap with means at each end thereof adapted for attachment to the top portion of the front and rear of the body of a plurality of undergarments to support the same loosely and in adjustable, wearing positions so as to dispense with the individual permanently attached shoulder straps, now commonly worn.
In the present type and style of undergarment, each equipped with shoulder straps, it has been necessary to provide some means such as clasps or shoulder strap retainers whereby the garment straps are prevented from falling down from the shoulders. This has always been a considerable annoyance, very uncomfortable and mars dress appearance. The shoulder straps of undergarments are otherwise objectionable because they are not adjustable in'length for tall or short people.
The strapsare usually of different material and of different widths for slips, brassieres and other undergarments and are furthermore exposed and seen through light, fine material of the outer dress. v
In order to overcome the above objections and to provide a single strap for supporting a plurality of undergarments such as vests,
brassieres and slips for instance, I have illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawing showing a preferred embodiment.
wherein Fig. 1 is a view showing the appearance 0 4 the shoulder strap when employed to support the arment.
Fig. 2 is a similar view. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of the end of the shoulder strap.
Fig. 4 shows the completed article of manufacture before it is attached.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding arts in all the views, I have shown. the shoul er strap for supporting at least three undergarments Such as a vest, brassiere and slip wherein the said strap is attached to the front and rear body portion of' said garments whereby the individual straps now employed for each garment are dis- 5 pensed with. The fastening or attaching means may be made in different styles to accomplish the above purpose. For instance in Fig. 3, the extreme end 5 of the strap 7 may be provided with a series of button holes 6 or as an alternative, with snap fasteners or other connecting means whereby the ends of the strap may be attached to the front and rear of an undergarment. The body portion 7 of the strap is provided with the tabs 8, 9, formed by folding a strip of material preferably of the same width of the strap 7 and stitching it along the line 10 so that the tabs 8, 9, are of different lengths and therefore at different distances from the end 5. W Each tab is equipped with a series of button holes 11, 12, for instance whereby they form means for attachment to the undergarment. In other words the respective ends of the shoulder strap 7 and the tabs 8, 9, may each be fastened and attached to a vseparate and individual garment so that the portion 7 of the strap may extend over the shoulders of the individual. It will thus be seen that by providing a series of button holes or other equivalent fastening means that the undergarment may be adjusted for the convenience of the individual. 'A single strap is therefore employed in place of a plurality of straps and the combined weight of the rc- S5 spective undergarments tends to keep the shoulder strap thus employed properly positioned on the shoulders. It will therefore be seen that the dress appearance is improved, annoyance of a plurality of straps overcome, attachment of the differentgarments is thus aiforded and metallic clasps or other fastening means dispensed with. The material of the shoulder stra may be in any color to correspond with t attachable and detachable .so that it can be laundered and may be of any grade material.
Having shown and described my inven-' tion what I claim as new is:
A womens shoulder garment supporter 100 e outer dres. It is easily comprising a narrow shoulder strap of a length to extend from the front to the back of an undergarment, a transversely folded strip of material of the same width as the strap, stitched to said strap at the fold above each end providing a pair of free, overlapping tabs of different length and above the free ends of said strap, each of said tabs and the free ends of said strap having a series of contiguous buttonholes for adjustable at 10 tachment to the front and back of a plurality of undergarments.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JULIET E. DEIMEL.
