M y invention relates to improvements over Fatent No. 1359 September 80, 1- to li adsworth and Arthur J11, to The Na sworth :y invention are to provide simple, e-. cientpcoinpact and economical detachable means i' or readilyand conveniently attaching strap or metal band to a wrist watch.
My invention consists in providing a pair of loop lugs integrally attached to and centrally disposed rela 've to the ends of a watch-case, a pair of straps having an openor slot cut in the looped ends thereoi, and a removable pin adapted to be inserted through the looped ends of said straps and said loop lugs, respectively, for the purpose oi' detachablv fastening said straps to said watch case.
My invention also consists in the construction, coinbiinition location and arrangen'ient of parts, as herein set forth and claimed.
In the drawing:
1 is a .tront view of a watch case embodying my invention, the straps, dial and crown being illustrated by dottedlines;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation oi Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 a perspective view of the watch case, the dial crown and strap being omittedto clearly illustrate the position of one of the loop lugs and which also shows the pin ren'mved;
Fig. 4; is a perspective detail of one oi the loop lugs before being attached to a watch case;

Fig.6 is a bottom Ft'ragmental view of one oi the straps showing the looped end for the purpose of illustrating the slots on the under side within which the loop lugs respec tively are inserted.
In the embodiment oi my invention illustrated and which shows a preferred construction, I provide a watch case 1 of any preferred style or shape, the ends 2 and 3 of which have loop lugs l and 5, respective ly, securely attached thereto as by solder brazing or any other cesired method. Said lugs and 5 are provided with longitudi- DETACI-IABLE STRAPS.
1927. Serial No. 181,797.
11 lly cz-qtending holes 6 and 7, respectively,
which are of the same diameter as stem 8 of snap pin bar 9. Said snap pin bar 9 00mprises stem 8, one end of which is permanently received within socket 13 of member 10, said member 10 terminating in head 11 on outer end 12. he outer periphery o't I'J'IGll'lbQl" 10 is of the same diameteras the outer periphery of lugs 4t and 5, respectively, as clearly shown in Figs. land 5.
As illustrated in Fig. 5, stem 8 is provided with annular grooves lel and 15. Groove is: is for the purpose of permanently securing end 16 of stem 8 within socket 13 of member 10 and groove 15is'ior the purpose of detachably holdingmember 17 upon end 18 of said stem 8, as will be more fully described hereafter. Stem 8 may be permanently held in socket 13 by spinning orcompressing the walls of said socket to enter groove 14-. Said member 1? comprises cylindrical body portion 19 which terminates in h end 20 at its outer end 21. Said cylindrical body portion 19 is provided with internal socket 22 of substantially the as end 18 of stem 8 and is flared inwardly towards -,nd 23 oft said cylindrical body portion 1.9 thereby forming retaining edge or inturn d flange 24;, as clearly shown in Fig. 5. The purpose of retaining edge 24 is to detacl'iably engage annular groove '15 and reinovably secure member 17 upon end 18 of stem 8. Slots 25 cut into cylindrical body portion 19 assistia allowing-end 18 of stem 8 to'i orce its way into socket 22 of said cylindrical body portion 19 when attaching the watch straps 26 and 2? to the watch case '1, as more clearly described hereafter under assen'ibling. The straps 26 and -27 are provided on their inner ends 28 and 29 with loopsBO and 31, respectively. Openings 32 and 33 out in the underside of straps 26 and ctively, and centrally located within loops and 31 of said strap are for the purpose oi receiving loop lugs 41: and 5, respectively.
As the manner in which straps 26 and 27 are fastened or attached to watch case 1 is the same, a description of one will suflice for both. For example, assume that strap 26 is to be attached to watch case 1 and that loop lug a has been permanently fastened to said watch case in its proper position, as shown in Figs. 1 and 8, the first step is to insert said lug 4 within opening 32 of strap same diameter 1 v 26 until elongated hole 30 located in loop 30 alines with longitudinally extending hole 6 of said lug 4. Then insert end 18 of stem 8 within hole 30" in loop 30 of strap 26 and hole 6 of lug 4 until shoulder 10 of mem ber 10 abuts against taco 4" of lug i at which time end 18 of stem 8 will protrude beyond taco 4-. of lug 4, as clearly shown in Fig. 5. Then end 23 of cylindrical body portion 19 is inserted within the opposite end of hole 30 within loop 30 of strap 26 whereupon soclrct 22 receives said end 18 of stem 8 until retaiuing edge 24: snaps into annular groove 15. as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 5.
It will be clearly apparent that strap is thus firmly held in detachable engagement with watch case 1 by members 10, 8 and 17, respectively. Heads 1.1 and 20 of members 10 and 17, respectively, closely tit agaii'ust edges 26" and 26 of strap 26, thereby entirely covering or concealing hole 30, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The term loop strap is herein defined as meaning a loop strap or metal. band or their equivalent.
To remove or detach strap 26 from watch case 1, simply remove member 17 and draw member 10 and stem 8 outwardly from engagement within hole 6 of lug 4.
An advantage of this construction is that it insures a maximum of strength in attaching the strap or metal band to a watch case and has the attaching members concealed.
Another advantage of my invention is that a strap fastening means of this construction allows the attachment of full size straps to watch cases of narrower widths than has heretofore been possible with the means heretoiore used.
It will be understood that certain changes and modifications can be made without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention as defined in the claims.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a watch case. an elongated lug secured along its longitudinal edge to said watch case and having a hole extending longitudinally thcrethrough, a strap having a loop at one end thereof, which loop provided with an opening on its underside for the purpose of: receiving said lug and a strap holding pin adapted to be inserted within said looped end of said strap and into said hole in said lug whereby said strap is detachably secured to said Watch case.
2. In combination with a watch case, a lug securely fixed centrally to one end there- 0t and having a hole therethrough, a strap, one end of which terminates in a loop pro vided with an opening for the purpose of receiving said lug, a strap holding pin adapted to fit within the looped end of said strap and in said hole in said lug and a retaining cap adapted to tit within said looped end and over the smaller end of said pin whereby said strap is detachably secured to said watch case.
8. In combination with a watch case, a lug securely attached to one side of said watch case and having a hole therethrough, means adapted to engage said lug comprising a detachable pin one end of which is reduced in diameter and provided with an annular groove, a cap adapted to engage said reduced end and said groove, and a strap having a looped end provided with an opening adapted to receive said lug, and a pin inserted through said looped end and lug into said cap whereby said strap is detachably secured to said watch case.
t. In combination with a watch case, :1 lug oppositely disposed at each end thereof and each lug having a hole extending therethrough, a pair of straps each having a looped end with an opening centrally located therein, a pair of strap holding pins adapted to engage said looped ends of said straps, respectively, and said hole in said lugs, respectively, and a pair of pin retaining caps adapted to engage and retain said pins, respectively.
5. In combination with a watch case. a lug having a hole therethrough and securely tastened centrally at one edge of said watch case, a strap pin, one end of which terminates in an enlarged head and the other end of which terminates in a reduced shank having an annular groove therein and a retaining cap one end of which terminates in an enlarged head and having the other end slotted and provided with a socket and flanged end which socket detachably receives said shank and which flanged end detachably engages the annular groove of said pin.
