a desired advertising or other matter upon the paper as the latter is iilii'olled, the machine being espec allyadapted for printlng paper used in wrapping purchases.
- rrnother object of the invention is the in provision of a machine of the above cha-racter whichin addition to printing the paper for use as each purchase is made, may be adapted print entire roll of paper.
Another object of the invention is the is provision of a machine which includes in addition to theabove and other advantages, simplicity of construction, reliability in use and 'afiords means by which paper may be printed in an economical-and attractive manner.
With the above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of a machine constructed in accordance with the inven- 3u tion and shown arranged for printing a roll of paper.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken transversely through the rolls with the machine arranged to print the paper at the time of purchase.
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the type holders.
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary perspective view taken substantially on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail Wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character indicates a casing within which is arranged a suitable frame structure including a base 11, while mounted upon the casing are spaced standards 12, the latter removably support a spring pressed frame let which includes .a longitudinally disposed cutting bar whose cutting edge is adapted to sever the paper in the usual manner. The casing 10 isprovided with a hinged door 16 by 1 means of which access may be had to its interior, a latch 17 serving to hold the door in closed position." v Mounte'd in suit-able bearings supported b the frame within the casing lOis a type in l i 18. This roll is provided around its periph er-y with any desired number of spaced pairs of retaining bars 19 each pair being mounh ed upon a 2O suitably secured tothe roll 18. Spaced guide and retaining grooves are thus provided with the open edges of the grooves opposed so as to slidingly receive; individual type or other printing character's 21. Suitable printed formsmay thusbe'attached to the type roll'to provide adv'ertis ing or other printed matter. p
Located within the casing 1 0 is an ink bidder or container 22-, while mounted in suitable bearing brackets 23 is an inking roll 24. This roll is formed of suitable material and engages the'type face. In addition the roll. 24: is engaged by a transfer roll 25 which operates in the ink container 22 and by means of which ink is transferred evenly to the inking roll so that the latter may pr0-' videv an even distribution of ink upon the type faces. This ink is of course of a rapid 1y drying character.
Rotatably mounted Within the casing 10 is an impression roll 26 which is preferably provided with a yieldable periphery and paper from the paper roll '13 is passed between this roll 26 and the type 21 so that the impression roll forces the paper intov close contact with the printing face of the type to provide a, proper printing impression. The paper is guided to the impression roll around an idler roll 27 and from the im pression roll the paper is guided around an additional idler roll 28, the paper then passing upward over the top of the roll 13 and beneath the cutting bar 15.
p In order to operate the type roll 18 and' the inking roll and transfer roll, the roll 28 has attached to its shaft 29, a pulley 30. A belt 31 passes around this pulley and around a pulley 32 which is fast upon the shaft of the type roll 18, the belt being crossed as shown so that both of these pulleys will operate in a like direction. The shaft 33 while the shaft 36 of the transfer roll is o ceiving roll 42.
4 traction, the paper as it passes around the roll 28 is engaged by a roll 38 which presses the paper against the roll 28. a
As the free end A of the paper is. pulled from the roll 13, the rolls just described will i be rotated so that the type 21 will engage the face of the paper as the latter passes between the type and the impression roll 26.
If desired an entireroll of paper may be printed and in order to conveniently accomplish this there is provided a frame 39 which may be detachably secured to the casing 10 by screws or other fastening devices 10. This frame supports a supplemental frame 41 within which is removably mounted a re- This last mentioned roll is provided with an operating handle 43 and the free end of the paper is wound upon the roll 42 from theroll 13 the winding process serving to actuate the printing mechanism so that an entire roll of paper may be printed. An additional roll holder 44 is included in the supplemental frame 11, a small roll of paper 45 being mounted therein, This holder 4A may serve to hold areserve roll of paper or a roll of printed paper.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention What is claimed is A combined printing machine and paper holder comprising a casing, a type roll mounted therein an ink holder in the bottom of the casing, a transfer roll movable within the ink holder an ink roll positioned for contact with the transfer roll and the type 7 roll, a paper supply roll arranged above the casing, idler rolls in the top of the casing upon opposite sides of the type roll and paper supply roll and an impression roll supported by the casing and disposed between the' idler rolls for contact with the type roll whereby the paper passing from the supply roll and passing around one of the idler rolls will be passed between the impression and type roll, thence upwardly over the otheridler roll and part way around the supply roll.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature.
