LABEL HOLDER.

Myrinvention` relates to loose leafl binders of the post type, and it has particular lreference to devices tor yholding thereonv labels by which the records held in the binder can be identified. rdinarily the `records contained in a loose leaf post binder are-identilied byv pasting a paper or clothlabel over the back edges of the leaves, and as so applied, the labels'areA unsightly and quiclly worn oil.

lt is a purpose of my invention to provide a label 'holder of extremely simple and inear` pensive construct-ion which may be yquickly and permanently secured tothe back ot a loose leat' post binder in such manner as to securely retain the vlabel in display` position, yet permitting the quick removal ot the label when necessary, and also providingmeans by which the entire binder and its records may be easily and safely carried.

I will describe onlyone form of loose leaf binder and one 'form of label holder embody` ing my invention, and 'will then point out the novel features thereof in claims. i

Referring specilieally to the drawings, my invention, in its" present embodiment, is shown in Figure 6 vas Comprising a single sheet ol' metal or other suitable material, including a plate y ot" rectangular outline, with its longitudinal edges providedfwith co-extensive flanges 16 disposed at rightvangles to the plate.y These flanges are/constructed at one of 4their ends to 'form extensions 17 curved attheir outer edges,'as' indicated at 17a, and straight at theirV inner edges,as indicated at 17 b`, while the adjacent end edge '16 of Athe liange extends at an acute angle from the edge 17 so as yto provide therewith a substantially V-shaped recess with. a rounded crotch 17C,

as clearly illustratedmin Figure 4. 1t will be understood "that to move theholder to this kposition itis necessary that the holder bel `rotated inwardly trom-the positionshown inFigure 3 to that shown in Figure-,41, and in the'inal positionthe platel is disposed linparallelism to theback edges ofthe leaves V25, wherebythe bent ends 22 of the label Q1a1e`clamped between theplateand the uio leaves, thus securely holding the label against accidental displacement from the holder. By now moving the holder longitudinally in the direction ot the post 27, the post will linally repose within the erotches 1Sc of the corresponding recesses, as clearly shown in Figure 5. During this movement oi the holder, the post 26 moves along the inner straight edges 17 b of the extensions 17, and in the iinal position et the holder the extensions 17 still engage such post so that with the extensions 1 8 engaging the post 27 it will be n'ianitest that the holder is securely held against outward displacement from the leaves. Because ot the curved edges 181 ont' the extensions 18, it will be clear that when moving the holder to the position shown in Figure these curved edges will tunctionas cams to draw the holder inwardly ot the leaves and thus iirmly clamp the label in position.

lilith the holder applied as described, the handle or yoke f2.0 is disposed at the outer side of the leaves and tree to swing to the angular position shown in Figure 2, whence the handle may be griliped and the entire hinder and its contents lifted and carried. Because of the mounting ot the yoke 20, it will be manifest that when lifting the binder the weight of the binder will operate to maintain the post 27 .in engagement with the extensions 1S, thus preventing the accidental displacen'ient of the holder from the binder and permitting the tree carrying et theV binder by means oit the handle.

li", ttor any reason, it is desired to remove the label holder trom the binder, it will be understood that by i'orcing the holder from the position shown in Figure 5 to that shown in Figure 4 the extensions 1S will be moved out et engagement with the `post 27, thereby permitting the holder to be swung to the position shown in Figure 3 and the snbsequent removal of the holder :trom the leaves.

Although have herein shown and described only one 'l'orm oit label holder embodying my invention, it is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be niadetherein without departing from the spirit ot' th(` invention and the spirit and scope ot the appointed clain'isi l claim as my invention:

l, A. label bolder comprising a plate haw ing spaced lianges extending therefrom adapted to be inserted between the leaves ot a two post binder, nach of said `tlan having terminal extensions arranged to provide recesses adjacent the extensions, the length oil one of the extensions being greater than that et the other, the spacing between the end ot one of the extensions and the crotch of the recess at the other of the extensions being greater than the spacing between the posts ot the binder, and the spacing between the end of the other of the extensions and the crotch of the recess at the first mentioned extensions being less than the spacing between the posts.

2. A label holder as embodied in claim 1, wherein the recess at the shorter extension is inclined towards the plate t'rom the inner to theonter end of the extension.

A label holder comprising a plate having spaced flanges extending therefrom adapted to be inserted between theleaves ot' a two post binder, each of said flanges hav` ing extensions projecting outwardly from its ends and arranged to provide recesses adjacent the extensions, oneot the extensions being of greater length than the other, the spacing between the end of the longer extension and the crotch 'of the recess of the shorter extension being greater than the 'the ends ot the iianges and arranged to provide recesses adjacent the extensions, the extensions on one end ot the flanges being of greater length than those on the other end, the distance between the end ot the longer extensions and the crotch oit the recess-es ot the shorter extensions being greater than the spacing between the posts et the binder, whereby upon insertion ot' the `flanges between the leaves of the binder to engage one o't' its posts within the crotch of the recesses of the longer extensions, then pivoting the holder upon isaid post inwardly toward the binder and then shifting the holder longitndinally away from said post to engage the. other post et the binder within the recesses et the shorter extensions, the longer extensions will remain in engagement with their respective post and will coact with the shorter extensions :in securing the holder against lateral displacement from the binder.

5. A, label holder as embodied in claim 4, wherein the recesses of the shorter extensions are inclined with respect to the plate so that when the last mentioned post is seated in the crotch oi the last mentioned re cesses the holder will be secured against vlongi tudi n al displacement.

6. label holder as embodied in claim 4 wherein the holder is provided with a handle so positioned that when grasped to lift the binder the weight of the binder will be imposed on the last mentioned post to thereby maintain the binder in locking engagement with the posts.

A label holder comprising a plate hav- He spaced Helge ,steed-ing @herder-9m lllll adapted to be inserted between the leaves ot a two-post binder, eacho'lf said flanges being recessed at its ends to provide oppositely projecting extensions, one of which is of greater length than the other with they overall length otpthe flange at a point between the crotch of the recess of the shorter extension and the end of the longer extension being greater than the spacingl between posts of the binder so that upon insertion ot' the flanges between the leaves ot' the binder to engage one of its posts within the recesses ot the longer extensions, then pivoting the holder upon said nost inwardly towards the binder and then shifting the holder longitudinally away troni said post to seat the other post within the crotches ol' the short extensions, the longer extensions will remain in engagement with their respective posts and will coact with the shorter extensions and the posts to secure the holder against lateral displacement troni the binder.

8. A label holder as embodied in claiin 1,

wherein the longer extensions are provided with a long straight edge and a. 1aointed end to facilitate yinitial insertion of the flanges between the leaves of the birder andthe shorter extensions are provided with a can; edge adapted to be engaged with one of the posts ofr the binder for urging the holder inwardly of the binder.

A label holder having spaced flanges adapted to be insertedbetween the leaves of a two-post binder, said flanges having notches at at leasttwospaced points extending in the general direction of the length of the ilanges with one oit the notches being disposed in opposed relation to and of greater depth than the other of the notches, the spacing between the outer end of the notch ot greater depth and the crotch of the notch of less depth being greater than the v i distance between the posts ofthe binder, and the spacing between the'outer end of the notch of less depth and the crotch of the notch of greater depth being less'than the distance between the posts. n t

rsaid flanges having their end portions provided with notches extending in the general direction of the lengthot` the flanges with one of the notches being disposed in substantially opposed relation to and ot greater depth than the other of the notches,the spac-k ing between the outer end oit the notch of greater depth and the crotch of the notch of less depth and between. the outer end of the notch of less depth and the crotch yof the notch ot' greater depth being so proportioned to the spacing between posts yoi a binder that upon insert-ing the end of the flanges having the notches of greater depth between the leaves to engage the crotch of the deeper notches with one of the posts, then swinging the holder inwardly towards the binder, andrthen shifting the holder lon'` gitudinally away from said post until the other post seats within the crotch of the notches of less depth, the first ksaid posts will remain inengageinent with the notches of greater depth, whereby the notches will coact with the posts to retain the holder against lateraldisplacenient from the binder.-
