BOTTLE-BEVERAGE COOLER.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in bottled beverage coolers and has for its primary object to provide a receptacle or container for bottles with the bottles supported in an upright position Within the cooler and having their necks alone protruding above the cooler with flexible means carried by the cooler and engaging the neck or" the bottle to hold the same in an upright position and to prevent the entrance of air to the interior of the cooler.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bottled beverage cooler of the type above set forth wherein the wall of the cooler is of double walled insulated formation with a central opening in the upper wall of the cooler for the reception of a block of ice and with a cover wall for the opening,
there being an overflow drain pipe to regulate the quantity of chilled water remaining in the cooler. v
WVith the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists of the novel form', combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

Fig. 1 is a top plan view of a bottled beverage cooler constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Fig. 2 is a vertical cross sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1 showing the insulated double wall construction of the cooler, the overflow water pipe and the removable cover for the ice receiving opening in the upper wall of the cooler,
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on an enlarged scale, and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary top plan view showing the flexible bottle neck gripping member.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, there is illustrated a bot tled beverage cooler comprising a container that may be of any configuration desired, the same being herein illustrated as circular in top plan and embodying a lower body portion and a cover wall. The body portion is of double walled format-ion embodying an outer wall 1 and an inner wall 2 spaced therefrom to provide an area for insulating outer wall 1.

The cover for the container comprises a flat wall 4 resting at its peripheral edges upon the upper edges of the inner and outer side walls 1 and 2 of the body portion, the cover wall section 4 having a central opening 5 surrounded by an upstanding flange or neck 6. The cover also includes an upper wall 7 having a central opening to be received on the neck 6 and an annular depending flange 8 inclosing the outer side of the A removable cover or lid 9 provided with a handle 10 is received on the upper end of the neck 6 and includes a depending side flange 11 inclosing the neck as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
The cover wall sections 4 and 7 are provided with registering openings 12 of a diameter to permit free passage of the bottle B therethrough as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 with the bottle supported at its lower end upon the bottom side of the inner wall 2 of the container. To prevent ingress of air to the interior of the container through the openings 12, a flexible plate 13 of rubber, leather or the like is positioned between the cover wall sections 4 and 7 and said flexible plates over the portions thereof spanning the openings 12 are radially slitted as at 14 to the central opening 15 to form flexible bottle neck engaging tabs 16 shown in detail in Fig. 4. The inner ends of the tabs 16 intimately engage the neck N of the bottle B and effectively seal the openings 12 against the passage of air into the container.
In the use of the cooler, the lid 9 is removed and a block of ice placed in the cooler through the central opening 5. By the provision of the upstanding neck 6 it is possible to place a larger block of ice in the relatively shallow cooler and the chilled water in the cooler will rise to the upper end of the overflow pipe 17 and flow outwardly of the cooler to prevent the water level rising to the bottle openings 12. Also, by the provision of the flexible tabs 16 engaging the necks N of the bottles, splashing of water through the openings 12 is prevented. The device is extremely attractive in appearance, and practically the entire bottle being housed within the cooler will insure a thorough chilling of the contents of the bottles while the character of the beverage will be displayed upon the bottle cap. r g
From'the above detailed description of the device it is believed that the construct-ion and operation thereof will at once he apparent, and While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment-"of the resent invention, it is, nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

saidcover Wall having a central opening and a removable lid, and having a plurality of openings for the insertion retention and removal of the bottles, to Which are fitted radially slitted'fiexibl'e rings, adapted to allow of the insertion and removal of bottles, and
