The invention relates to new and useful improvements in trousers, and more particularly' tothe waist band construction therefor.

5 An object of the invention is to provide a vwaist band construction which includes a stiffening strip and a facing strip,which facing strip is formed in two sectionsan upper and a lower section, and wherein he stiifen ing strip and bothsections of the facing strip are secured together by two lines of stitches which are so formed in the sections as to be concealed from view at the front of the garment','when the waist band is attached 1!! thereto, by the body fabric of the garment, and concealed from view on the inside of the garment by the facing strip.

In the drawings, which show by way-of illustration one embodiment, of the invention:

The invention is directed broadly to a waist band construction wherein a stiffening strip, such as canvas or the like, is secured to a facing strip and to the body fabric of the trousers by concealed stitches. The 40 facing strip is formed in two sections, an

The upper section has its edges inturned, and thestitches for uniting the parts pass throu h these inturned edges of thefacing strip 0 y. 46 The lower section is formed from a strip of fabric folded intermediate its edges and with the ed es of the fabric laced between the inturn lower edge of t e facing strip and the stiffening strip, and is secured by the concealed stitches which pass through the arts. - The facing strip or skirt consists of an upper section 3 and a lower section 4. The upper section 3 has its side edge inturned a-t 5 and its lower edge inturned at 6." The body fabric at its upper edge 7 is placed against the inner face of the stiffening strip 1. The lower section 4 of the facing strip is. folded intermediate its side edges at 9, and the side edges 10-10 are placedtogether and are superposed upon the lower edge of the stiffening strip 1. The inturned edge 6 of the upper section 3 of the skirt is superposed upon the edges of thefolded facing section 1, and concealed stitches 11 are used for securing the parts together. The thread from which the loops. of the stitches are formed lies between the inturned portion 6 of the facing strip and the body portion thereof and are passed first through this inturned portion, then through the folded fabric forming the lower section 4 of the skirt or facing strip, and then through the lower edge of the stifl'ening stri These loops are secured by being interloc ed with each other, or in- 1 tel-locked with the usual thread or thread loolps.

rom the above, it will be apparent that a waist band structure is provided wherein the stitches for securing the parts of the waist band structure are concealed both from the outer face of the garment and the inner face of the garment. These lines of stitches are simultaneousl formed. The machine for accomplishing this result is shown in a copending application Serial No. 570 filed of even date herewith.

It will be noted that the lower section of the skirt projects below the edge of the canvas strip, and this makes a very neat finish for the waist band structure. This lower section may be tacked to the body fabric, if desired, to hold the waist band inside of the trousers.

It is obvious that minor changes in the arrangernent of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claim.

What is claimed as new is:

The combination with the body fabric of trousers, of a stiffening strip at the waist band of the trousers, said body fabric being folded over the upper edge of said stiffening strip, a skirt comprising upper and lower sections, the upper section including a facing strip having its upper edge inturned and placed against the inner face of the fold ed-over edge of the body fabric, a line of stitching passing through the inturned portion only of the facing strip, said foldedover edge of the body fabric and the stiffening strip and concealed from view at the outer face of the garment by the body fabric and at the inner face of the garment by said facing strip, said facing strip at its lower edge being inturned, the lower section of said skirt comprising a fabric strip folded intermediate its edges with the fold in the fabric at the lower side thereof, and the two edge portions of the folded stri located between the inturned portion o the facing strip and the stiffening strip, a line of stitches passing through said inturned portion onl of the facing strip, the upper edges of the olded strip forming the lower section of the skirt, and through the stiffening strip, said last-named line of stitchin being concealed from view at the outer ace of the garment by the body fabric, and at the inner face of the garment by said facing strip.
