This invention relates to a wall furnace. The general obj ect of the present invention is to provide a wall furnace which is adapted for heating two adjoining rooms from one furnace.
Another object of the present invention provided a single fresh air inlet to the furnace which thus constitutes a singlev means for supplying heated fresh air to a plurality of rooms,
flue for the heating means. Said fresh air inlet also provides the air for burner con} sumption in the furnace so that the air sup ply in the rooms is not depleted for this purpose. 1
This invention together with various additional objects and advantages thereof, will best be understood from a description of a1 preferred form or example or a wall heater embodying the invention. For this purpose, reference is made to the accompanying drawings in which I have disclosed the preferred forms of Wall heaters embodying the invention. 7

Referring to the drawings, 2 represents a building wall between two adjacent rooms. Said wall is provided with a single opening and there is also provided'a single 3 for installation of heating means for both rooms, separated, by said wall, the opening 3 being in this case indicated as generally rectangular in form. 4tgenerally indicates a wall furnace or heater provided with self included means for the generation of heat to be emitted into the rooms .at both sides of said wall, the heater 1 comprising a housing 5 of metal or other suitable material, I
- having opposed heat emitting openings 6 and 7 for the different rooms. Said openings 6 and 7 may be partially covered with a screen or grating, if desired.
The housing 5 of the furnace or heater 4 is preferably formed by encasement members 8 placed around the sides of the opening for encasing the same and by two complemental side members 9 and 10 which are bolted or otherwise secured to the encasei nentnieinbers 8. The side members 9 and 10 are preferably generally rectangular in shape and have their central portions bent outwardly from the surface of the wall 2,
1 as indicated in Figure 2.
The particular form of the inventionillustrated in Figures 1 and 2 is'intended to be adapted to permit separate'regulation of and is, therefore, illustrated as including a central partition member 11 extending from the lower side of the furnace or heater up to near the top, said partition member 11 being hollow and providing a fresh air pasthe heating of the different adjoining rooms sage 12. The partition 11 is provided with I a curved baflie 13 at its top to restrict the upward motion of the air and gases within the furnace, above which there is indicated a. line 14 built in the wall 2 housing the furnace. At each side of the partition 11 are heat generating units which may be of any desired or preferred form of construction indicated, however, as gas burners 15 and 16. Said gas burners 15 and 16 are shown as each provided with heat radiating elements 17 and 18 which may be of any usual or preferred form such, for instance, as tile or brick having alarge surface for the radiation of heat,the tile or brick being lit) able construction, but preferably shuts off the flow of gas from below the furnace, except as supplied through the burners 15 and 16 or up through the fresh air passage 12. The burners 15 and 16 are indicated as connected through a common supply line 20.
Below the furnace, there is indicated an air passage 21 for introducing fresh air to the furnace and the lower side of the lions ing is indicated as provided at 22 with. apertures for admitting said fresh air to the base of the furnace or heater, from which the fresh air passes through apertures 23 in the partition 11 below the plate 19. There is thus provided a passage for air from without the building up through the passage in which it isheated and from which it may be all or in part discharged into the adja cent rooms heated by the furnace or heater. The fresh air passes from air passage 21 through apertures 22, apertures 30 in wall 31 of the furnace base, through apertures 23 and air passage 12, and out through the apertures 32 at the top of said passage. Apertures 24 are also indicated in the sides 9 and 10 of the housing below the supporting plate 19 for supplying suitable air to the burners 15 and 16.
The above described furnace or heater, it can'be readily seen, is adapted to heat both rooms separated by the wall 2, and the furnace or heater requires only a single opening to be cut in the wall 2 for its installation.
Now, referring to the form of the invention shown in Figures 3 to 6, inclusive, I have therein shown a form of wall furnace or heater which is of special value and simplicity when it is desired to supply a single wall furnace or heater for heating two adjoining rooms without requiring that the heater should be separatel regulable forindependently heating each room. Said furnace or heater is shown as comprising the heater housing 5 having complemental heat emitting openings 6 and 7* at its opposite sides for serving the different rooms, the housing 5 being indicated including the opening encasement members 8 and the two side members 9 and 10 Below the openings 6 and 7 the housing includes a supporting plate or shelf 19" which supports a heat radiating member 17 of novel construction, adapted to radiate heat in both directions. Said heat radiating member 17 is positioned above a burner indicated as including twin burner heads supplied with gas from a line Above the heat radiating members 17, there is provided a damper or baffle 13 for deflecting the gases and impeding their upward progress, and above said damper or bafile is a flue 14 for the furnace. The sides 9 and '10 of the furnace are indi cated as provided with air apertures 24 below the supporting shelf 19 which apertures 24 serve to admit air to the burners 15. Additional air ma if desired, be passed to the furnace through a fresh air fine 21 in the wall in which the burner is secured. Burners 15 receive gas from the line 20.
The heat radiating members 17 are inclicated as of a novel construction of tile or brick, including a central wall 25 and two opposed downwardly diverging perforated side walls 26 and 27.
With the furnace as illustrated in Figures 8 to 6 inclusive, allof the heat supplied to the heat radiating members 17 is radiated therefrom into the adjacent rooms, no other partition being between the rooms.
While the particular forms of wall heaters and furnaces herein described are well .adapted to carry out the objects of the present invention, it is understood that various modifications and changes may be made without departing from the invention, and
the invention includes all such modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A wall heater comprisinga heater housing adapted to be installed in a wall opening above the floor of a room, the heater housing resting upon the lower wall of the opening, the heater housing being provided with opposed heat emitting openings for serving the rooms on opposite sides of the wall, heat radiating means providing heat radiating surfaces facing said openings, and heat generating means mounted within the housing.
2. A wall furnace comprising a furnace housing adapted to be installed in a wall opening above the floor of a room. the heater housing resting upon the lower wall of the opening, a heat generating means mounted within the housing, a heat radiating means providing opposed heat and radiating surfaces, openings in opposed sides of said heater housing, a battle above said heat radiating means, and a flue above said battle.
3. A wall furnace, comprising a housing adapted to be installed in a wall opening above the floor of a room, the heater housing resting upon the lower wall of the opening,
the housing including encasing members for the opening and complementary side mcmbers, the side members being provided with openings for the emission of heat, eat radiating means within said housing providing heat radiating surfaces facing said open ings, and burners disposed below said heat radiating means.
4. A wall furnace, comprising a housing adapted to be installed in a wall opening above the floor of a room, the heater housing resting upon the lower wallof the opening, said housing including encasement members for the opening and complemental side me1nbers, each provided with-heat emitting openhousing adapted to be installed in a wall a opening above the floor of a room, the heater housing restingupon the lower wall of the opening, the furnace housing providing opposed heat emltting openings adapted to emit heat into the rooi'nson both sides of the wall, a supporting shelf in said housing below said openings, heat radiating members supported on said shelf, and provided with heat radiating surfaces facing said openings, and heat generating members mounted with in said housing below said shelf.
6. A wall furnace of the class described adapted to be placed in a wall opening above the floor of a room, the wall furnace comprising furnace housing adapted to be supported by thewallsof said opening, the furnace housing providing opposed heat emitting openings adapted to emit heat into rooms on both sides of the wall, heat generating means mounted within said housing, heat radiating members adapted to radiate from said openings the major portion of the generated heat, and a baffle above said radiating means adapted to deflect the conducted heat from the housing walls.
7. A wall furnace adapted to be installed in an opening in a wallabove the floor of a room, the furnace comprising a housing adapted to be supported in said wall opening, heat generating means within said housing, the heat emitting openings in said housing adapted to emit heat into rooms on both sides of the wall, heat radiating members within the housing operative to radiate the heatfrom said openings, and means for circulating air through the heater to conduct the unradiated heat from the housing walls.
8. A wall furnace adapted to be installed in an opening in a wall between two rooms, the furnace comprising a housing adapted to be supported in said wall opening, a central partition in said housing closing the major portion of said opening, a burner having a twin head for generating heat at opposite sides of said partition, and openings in said housing adapted to emit heatinto the rooms on both sides of said partition.
9. A wall furnace adapted to. be installed in an opening in a wall between two rooms, the furnace comprising a housing adapted to be supported in said wall opening, a central partition in said housing closing the major portion of said opening, a burner hav ing a twin head for generating heat at opposite sides of said partition, openings in said housing adapted to emit heat into the rooms on both sides of said partition, and heat radiating members above said burners on both sides of said partition.
10. A Wall furnace adapted to be'instalied inan opening in a wall above the floor of a room, the furnace comprising a housing adapted to be supported in said Wall opening, a hollow partition in the center" of said housing closing the major portion of said opening, said partition providing an air passage, heat generating means atboth sides of said partition, and heat emitting openings in said-housing adapted to emit heat into the rooms on both sides of said partition.
11. A wall furnace adapted to be installed in an opening in a wall above the floor of a room, the furnace comprising a housing adapted to be supported in said Wall opcning, a hollow partition in the center of said housing closing the major portion of said opening, said partition providing van air passage, heat generating means at both sides of said partition, heat emitting openings in said housing adapted to emit heat into the rooms on both sides of said partition, said heat generating means comprising a burner with a twin head with burner heads at both sides of said partition, and heat radiating means mounted within said burners.

A wall furnace adapted to be installed in an opening in a wall between two rooms, the furnace comprising a housing adapted to be supported in said wal'l opening, a central partition in said housing closing the major portion of said opening, a burner having a twin head for generating heat at opposite sides of said partition, openings in said housing adapted to emit heat into the rooms on both sides of said partition, and a battle supported above said partition and closely adjacent the upper end of the housing arranged to deflect the heat away from the upper wall'of the housing and through said housing opening.

A wall furnace adapted to be installed in an opening in a wall between two rooms, the furnace. comprising a housing adapted to be supported in said wall opening, a central partition in said housing closing the major portion of said opening,'a burner having a twin head for generating heat at opposite sides of said partition, openings in said housing adaptedrto emit heat into the rooms on both sides of said partition, heat radiating members above said burners on both sides of said partition, and a baffle supported above said partition and closely adjacent the upper end of the housing, arranged to deflect the heat away from the upper wall of the housing and through said housing openin 14. A wall furnace adapted to be installed in an opening in a wall above the floor of a room, the furnace comprising a housing adapted to be supported in said wall open ing, a hollow partition in the center of said housing closing the major portion of said opening, said partition providing an air passage, heat generating means at both sides of said partition, heat emitting openings in said housing adapted to emit heat into the rooms on both sides of said partition, said heat generating means comprising a burner with a twin head With burner heads at both sides of said partition, heat radiating means .mounted within said burners, and a ba-Hie supported above said partition and closely adjacent the upper end or" the housing arranged to deflect the heat away froni'the upper Wall of the housing and through said housing opening.
16. A. wall heater comprising a housing, a partition disposed centrally in said housing, heating elements disposed at opposed sides of said partition, a bafile disposed above said partition, and openings in the housing on both sides ot said partition.
17. A wall heater comprising a housing, a partition disposed centrally in said housing, heating elements disposed at opposed sides of said partition, a battle disposed above said partition, openings in the housing on both sides of said partition, and an air passage through said partition through which a draft of air is introduced by the heat of the heating element.
