Application filed June 9,
This invention relates to an improved article of manufacture which may be conveniently referred-to as a smokers a pliance,
the same being adapted for hol ing cigarettes, cigars, and similar products.
Briefly,- the invention has reference to a novel means constructed to permit a cigar, cigarette, or the like to be supported in the smokers mouth at a point centrally of its ends in order to permit igniting and smoking from both ends at the same time.
More specifically, the invention has reference to an appliance of this kind which includes a cigarette holder and a smoke conducting tube connected therewith, the ar-.
rangement being such that the cigarette is held in the pos1tion at right angles, the point of support being at the center of the cigarette to permit the aforesaid-result to be effectively accomplished.
My principal object is to provide a simple and inexpensive article of manufacture of this kind whichmay he used to advantage more particularly as an advertising novelty, although, it is believed, that it will operate to form a readily saleable and commercially successful article to persons fascinated with unusual and strikingly attractive devices of this kind. a
Other objects, features, and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and drawings.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is atop plan View of a device constructed in accordance with the invention showing the manner in which it is used.
Figure 2 is a view at right angles to Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top view with portions broken away'and shown in section to disclose the construction and also the method in which the cigarette is gripped.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the improved mouth piece or smoke conducting tube.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the reference character 1 designates the improved head which includes a ferrule 2 for surrounding the central portion of the cigarette 3. Formed integral with this ferrule and extending in a direction toward the mouth of the smoker is a socket .3 which may have a smooth bore or a screw 1927. Serial Io. 187,618.
threaded bore if the same is found more desirablc in practice.
The means for supporting the head, com.-
rises as before'indlcated, a smoke conducting tube or mouth pipe 4. This may be of any appropriate configuration for ornamentalvpurposes, the same being referably tapered toward the outer end and provided with a central smoke conducting bore 5. At the inner end is a tooth gripping rib 6. At the outer end, as shown more plainly in Figure 4 is a conical penetrating element 6 provided with intersecting smoke intake passages 7 communicating with the bore 5. This pointed end of the mouth tube or pipe is slidably inserted into the socket and held by friction. A snug fit is thus essential here. However, as before stated, a screw threaded connection may be provided if practice demands. f
Assuming that the device is constructed for accommodating a cigarette 3 as shown in the drawings, it will be seen that the cigarette will be inserted and slid through the ferrule 2, at which time the pointed penetrating end 6 of the mouth pipe is withdrawn into the socket 3. With the cigarette located centrally and both ends projecting as shown in Figure 1, the head 1 isheld and then the smoke tube 4 is pushed inwardly so that the point 6 penetrates the paper and becomes embedded in the central portion of the tobacco. This disposes the air intake ports 7 at a point to take in the smoke. Then, as before stated, the cigarette is lighted on both ends and under ordinary conditions burns toward the center, thus providing a novel and entirely new manner for smoking cigarettes and the like. The device will be used more particularly for cigarettes, but of course may be used with cigars, although the average cigar will be found rather unwieldy to handle in this manner owing to the unbalanced effect that the use of the device will have.
No doubt by considering the description in connection with the drawings a clear understanding of the invention will be obtained. For this reason, a more detailed description is thought unnecessary.
While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it is to be understood that minor changes coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. As a new article of manufacture, a cigar, cigarette, or similar product holder comprising a ferrule adapted to surround the central portion of the product, a socket carried bysaid ferrule, a smoke conducting tube extending from said socket, 'and means carried by saidtub'e for puncturing the product to permit the smoke to enter the passage of the tube.
' 2. As a new article of manufacture, a cigarette holder of the class described comprising a ferrule provided With an integral socket, a smoke conducting tube having a mouth grip at its 1111181 end, provided with a central smokeiconducting bore, and having a pointed penetratingv portion at its outer end, said penetrating portion being MILTON T; BARKER, vJ1
