FURNACE.
Application ledrJuly 23, 1927. Serial No. 207,879.
This invention relates to furnaces, and an object of the invention is to provide a furnace of the warm air circulatingtype wherein the combustion part of the furnace comprises an enclosure including a tire pot and a partition above the ire pot forming a chamber having communication to the enclosure at the side of the fire pot for' conducting the products of combustion to said chain'- ber, and thence to the outside.
Another object of the invention is to provide a furnace of the down draft type comprising an upright enclosure having a fire pot in its lower portion spaced from the wall of the enclosure, so that the products of combustion are required to pass downwardly through the grate and around the fire pot, and thence through a pipe to a compartment formed inthe upper portion of the enclosure and having communication with the outside.
Other objects will appear from the follow i ing description, reference being made to the drawing which is a vertical sectional view of a furnace constructed in accordance with my invention.
The furnace comprises a shell or casing 1 having at its lower end a cold air inlet 2 and at its upper end a number of warm air outlets Sthrough which the hot air passes to the several roomsf A Within the shell or casing the combustion apparatus is mounted upon an ash receptacle 4 having its upper `end open and from which the ashes maybe removed through a passage 5. The combustion apparatus comprises a. cylindricalfenclosure G-liaving its wall at itsV lower endv curving inwardly throughout its circumference to provide a portion 7 of reduced diameter set upon the upper end of the ash receptacle 4. Afire pot'8 within the enclosure 6 has a circumferential flange 9 around its upper end seated upon a support 10 rigid with the wall of the enclosure 6. y, The fire pot 8 is thus supported within the enclosure to form an annular space 11 below the supportingiiangeQ. The grate 12 is supported in'any appropriate manner in the lower end `of thev lire pot 8 slightly above the lowerI extremity of the reduced portionifY of the enclosure. A fuel passage 13 opensthrough theshe'll or casing 1 into the enclosure 6, above the tire pot 8 and is controlled by a door 14.
A. horizontal partition 15 is provided in inlet opening 22, which flange is jointed` with the flange 18. V F rom the drum 2O the smoke, etc., is discharged through an outlet 23.
From the space 11 around the iire pot a pipe 24 opens into the chamber 16, so that the smoke, etc., passing downwardly through the grate 12 is conducted from the space l1 to the chamber 16 and to the drum 20, and thence outwardly to discharge through the ou tletv 23.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided an improved down draft furnace wherein most of the combustible elements and gas will be consumed, and wherein the air in the shell or casing 1y is thor- Y oughly heated `by transfer of the heat from kthe combustion apparatus to the air in the casing or shell.. The construction and arrangement of the several parts may be varied within equivalent` limits without departure from the nature and' principle of the invention. I do not restrict myself unessentially, but what I claim and desire to secure by Let.- ters Patent is f 1. .A furnace comprising a casing, a cylindrical enclosure within the casing, a'firc pot supported in said enclosure and forming an annular space around the fire pot Vwithinthe enclosure, a `partition inthe enclosure above the re pot, and a pipev opening from said i f spaceinto said enclosure above said partition. f
2A furnace comprising a casing having ya cold air inlet and warm air outlets, an ash receptacle within said casing, a cylindrical,
enclosure` supported upon said ash receptacle,
ico
means forming a fuel inlet passage through o `said casing intosaid enclosure, a partition forming a chamber' in said enclosure above said inlet passage, a .fire pot supported in Y said enclosure below said passage and forming an annular space within said enclosure, and a pipe opening from said space into said enclosure above said partition.
3. A furnace comprising a casing, a cylindrical enclosure supported in said casing, a partition in said enclosure, a fire pot supported in said enclosure below said partition and having its wall spaced from said enclosure, means forming a fuel inlet into said enclosure above said fire pot and below said partition, and a pipe opening from said enclosure below the upper end of said lire pot into said enclosure above said partition.
