MASSAGE DEVICE.
Application filed January 25, 1927. Serial No. 163,469.
My invention relates to a hand device for massaging and the invention has for its gen: eral object to provide a novel assemblage or massaging elements disposed in pairs to be effective in massaging the body. v
The nature of my invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will clean ly appear as the description continues.
Reference is to be had to the accompany ing drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a back view massaging device.
Figure 2 is a face view. Figure 3 is an end view.
of my improved Figure 4 is a detail in vertical section in the plane of the axis of one of the massaging elements.
In carrying out my invention in accord ance with the illustrated example a face plate is provided and a back plate 11, the two being united by suitable fastening means, as by bolts 12 and nuts 18. At the face of the deviceproject revoluble massaging elements 14 disposed in pairs, a single pair of the elements 14 arranged near one side edge and a plurality of pairs of elements 14 nearer the opposite side edge. merits i l of each pair are disposed in planes oblique to each other and the elements are spaced apart at their convergent ends to afford clearance for the local portion of the body engaged between the pain Each 1element 14 is on a shaft or axle 15 having an oblique intermediate portion 16 to dispose the element in a plane oblique to a side edge and also oblique to a vertical planes The oblique intermediate portion 16 is received in a bushing 17 in the elements l t and at the pressure side of the element a Washer 18 is provided on the axle15. The elements let are accommodated in oblique-oblong openings 19, openings of a pair being convergent as is clearlv seen in Figure 2.
At the back of the deviceis an arched cover 20 to prevent contact "of the hand of the user with the elements 14. Said cover 20 is secured by bolts 21 to the back plate 1 1. In use the device is moved over the body The ele-- and local portions of the body Will pass between the elements 14: of a pair, thereby massaging and squeezing the engaged portion of the body between the convergent ends of a pair of elements, harshness in the treatment being avoided by the spacing of the elements 1d of a pair at their convergent ends.
It is to be observed that the elements 14 turn in fixed planes, the axles 15 being unyieldable so that there is no yielding of the elements of a pair relatively to each other.
I would state furthermore that While the illustrated example constitutes a practical ii embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied Without departure from the spirit of the inv in the appended claims.
l/Vhat I claim is:
ention, as defined l 1. In a manually usable massage device, a 7
face plate having oblong openings disposed in pairs, massaging elements disposed in each of said openings to be convergent at one side of the elements, said elements being mounted to freely revolve in massaging and being spaced at their convergent ends to afford clearance for the movement therebetvveen of the local portion of the body being massaged. 2. A massaging device including a face plate, a back plate secured to the face plate,
said plates having openings disposed in pairs in planes oblique to each other and axles extending across said openings and revolul'ile massaging elements turning on said axles and disposed in planes oblique to the general longitudinal axis of the device and also oblique to the general plane of the device.
3. A. massaging device including a face plate, a back plate secured to the face plate,
