CLOSURE FDR VESSELS.
Application filed May 3, 1926, Serial No.
This invention relates to closures for vessels and more particularly to vessels having the form and disposition of the float chamber of a carburetor.
Une of the objects of the invention is to provide a closure for carburetor float chambers arranged so that the body of the float chamber may be detached from the rest of the carbureter without the use of wrenches or other tools.
Another object is to arrange the closure so that there is no possibility of jarring the body of the float chamber loose during operation of the motor vehicle.
Further objects will appear in the course of the description which will now be given, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 shows an elevation, partially in section, of the float chamber and its attaching member.
Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1. a Fig. 3 is an elevation, partially in section, of a modified form of attaching member for the float chamber.
Referring to the various figures of the drawing, a represents the body portion of a carbureter forming a cover for float chainber b. Member at is provided with a groove into which the upper portion of chamber 6 fits. Member 6 has a concave bottom, preferably of conical form. Member at carries an ear a having a orifice an arranged to receive a rigid rod '0. Rod 0 has a bent portion or arm 0 which terminated in a second bent portion adapted to fit into the apex Z2 of the cone forming the bottom of the float chamber. The angle between 0 and 0 is 40 made, preferably, equal to the angle between the float chamber wall and the bottom. The end of rod 0 passing through car a is provided either with a push-button 0 and a spring d (Fig. l) or with a threaded portion a and a nut 0 (Fig. 3). A finger c is joined at right-angles to rod 0 and is arranged so as to contact with a stop pin a mounted on car a when rod 0 is turned through an angle of approximately 90.
The manner in which the closure operates is as follows :-To release the body of the float chamber it is only necessary to press float chamber.

on push button 0 and to swing rod 0 until finger 0 contacts with pin aa (modification Figs. 1 and 2). In the modification shown in Fig. 8 the same result is obtained by loosening nut 0 and swinging rod 0 out of the way. To put the float chamber in place the operations are merely reversed.
What I claim is 1. .An apparatus of the class described comprising in combination a cover member, a float chamber having a concave bottom, a rigid rod formedto fit against the concave bottom of the float chamber and means for maintaining the rod firmly in contact with the float chamber.
2. An apparatus, of the class. described comprising in combination a cover member,
a body member having a concave bottom, a rigid bent rod formed to fit against the concave portion of said body member and means coacting with the cover member for maintaining the bent rod in contact with the 3. An apparatus of the class described comprising in combination a cover member having a circumferential groove therein,a float chamber having a conical bottom portion, said float chamber being adapted to so fit into the groove in the cover member, a. rigid rod formed to fit the conical portion of the float chamber and means for maintaining the rod in contact with the bottom of the float chamber. a I
4. An apparatus of the class described. comprising in combination a cover member, a float chamber, a rigid rod formed to fit against the bottom of the float chamber and means for maintaining the rod in contact with the bottom of the float chamber.
5. An apparatus of the class described comprising in combination a cover member, a float chamber having a conical bottom, a rigid rod having an arm forming an angle 9 therewith which is substantially one half that of the cone forming the bottom of the float chamber and means for maintaining the arm of the rod in contact with the bottom of the float chamber.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand. i
