This invention relates to hoisting tackle and is, more properly speaking, a divisional part of an application for patent filed by me on the 19th day of January 1926, Serial Number 82,349, for laundry clothes handling apparatus.
The invention provides novel locking means for the cord or rope operable thereby from below, as also a sheave pulley mounted to travel on an overhead track and including the locking means.
The invention relates to the structural features which hereinafter will be more fully described and pointed out in the appended claim and which are shown in the drawings hereto attached in which,

Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view of a portion of the block and fall showing more clearly the locking mechanism, and

Corresponding and like partsare referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The numeral 1 designates a track which may be supported overhead in any determinate way and upon which the carrier or sheave pulley 3 is mounted to travel. The carrier or sheave pulley comprises a frame including spaced members between which pulleys 4 and 5 are mounted, the one above the other. The upper pulley 4 is mounted upon the track 1. The lower pulley 5 coacts with the rope or cord 6 which passes there over. A link 7 is pivoted to thelower end of the frame 3 and has one end of the cord or rope 6 connected thereto. a sheave pulley 10 being supported in the bight of the cord or rope in a manner well understood. A link 11 pivoted to the lower end of the sheave pulley frame 10 swivelly supports a link 12 to which the load carrying elements 9 are attached.
A block 13 is disposed at the lower end of the carrier 3 to one side of the link 7 Serial no. 118,309.
and provides an abutment between which and a dog 14 the rope or cord 6 is clamped. The side members of the frame 3 are extended to accommodate the block 13 and slots 15 are formed in the extension to receive bolts 16 which pass through the block 13 and serve to secure the block in an adjusted position. In this manner the abutment block 13 may be adjusted to compensate for wear and to insure the clamping of the rope or cord 6 between it and the dog 14. Vhen the nuts of the bolts 16 are loosened, the block 13 is released and may be adjusted and is held in the required adjusted position by retightening the nuts so as to clamp the block 13 bet-ween the extensions of the side members of the frame 3. The dog 14 is located between the link 7 and the block 13 and is pivoted at its upper end to the frame of the carrier, as indicated at 17, said dog being of a less thickness than the block 13 to move freely at all times. The intermediate portion of the dog 14 curves towards the block 13 and is toothed or roughened to insure a positive gripping of the cord or rope and prevent a slipping thereof. The lower end of the dog 14 projects laterally and terminates in an eye 18 through which the cord or rope 6 passes and in consequence, said dog may be operated by proper manipulation of the loose end of the rope or cord 6 to grip or release the said cord as required.
The load to be lifted and transported is attached to the elements 9 in any preferred way and may be elevated or lowered by pull ing upon or relaxing the loose end of the rope or cord 6 and the dog 14 may be oper ated to grip or release the cord by a lateral movement of the loose ends of the cord so as to swing the dog outward or inward. lVhen the dog is swung outward it grips the cord and when swung inward the said cord is released and is free to move to elevate or lower the sheave pulley 10, with the load attached. Movement of the carrier 3 along the track 1 transports the load to the required point.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
The combination with a sheave pulley frame having; registering slots formed in its side members, and a block arranged between the side members of the frame, bolts passing through the block and the slots in the side members of the frame to secure the block in an adjusted position, of a dog pivoted at its upper end to the side members of the frame and having an eye at its lower end through which the rope passes, and having its middle portion curved towards the 10 block and roughened to clamp the rope.
