IMPROVEMENT IN MODES OF SECURING METALLIG LATHING.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,919, dated June 29, 1875; application filed October 20, 1874.

CASE A.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN W. HOYT, of

i Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Metal Lathing; and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

This invention is in the nature of an improvement in metallic lathing; and the invention consists in a series of metal clamps provided with screws and nuts, which hold the lathing in position to the furring. or otherwise, substantially in the manner hereinafter described.

As is well known, various ways have been devised for holding metal lathing in position; but the most of such devices are not sufficiently strong, but when strong enough they are too expensive in themselves, or require too much time to put them in position. It is believed that these several objections are obviated by my present invention, as will be seen from the following description and accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure l is a plan or top view of my invention, showing upper and lower surfaces; Fig. 2, an end View; and Fig. 3, a cross-section taken inline w .90, Fig. 2.

A represents the ordinary furring, which may be of angle-iron or other material. Into this furring are drilled a series of holes, a a. The metal lathing B is placed against the under side of the furrin g, and bolts 11 are inserted into the holes a. Clamps G, with holes through them, are fixed so that said clamps will span the edges of two adjoining sheets of lathing, the bolts b passing through the holes of the clamps, and nuts 0 are screwed upon the ends ofsaid bolts, which project through the clamps, securely holding the clamps and lathing in position to the furring.

These clamps, if designed for corrugated lathing, may be angular or curved, to lit the shape of the corrugations of the lathing.

I am aware th at'it is not new to secure tiling in position for ceilings by means of a screw and nut or washer, and I do not wish to claim this; but

Having thus described the construction and operation of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

The combination, with the metallic lathin g B, of the clamps 0, bolts 12, secured in the-furring, and nuts 0 for holding said clamps and lathing together, constructed and arranged substantially in the manner specified.
