rlhis invention pertains to improvements in lubricating systems and apparatus, and more particularly to that class of lubricating apparatus wherein lubricant may be delivered under pressure to the part to be lubricated.
llt is among the objects of the invention to provide lubricating apparatus wherein a lubricant-receiving part located in a relatively inaccessible place may be conveniently `preferab y being as illustrated somewhat JE- reached and coupled to a lubricant-expelling device.

Referring to the drawings and to the preferred form of my invention illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, I have provided a lubricantexpelling device typified by the barrel 6 of a grease gun, which may resemble that shown in my co-pending application Serial No. 548,643, filed herewith. Cooperating with the lubricant-expelling device, I have provided a discharge conduit adjustable to variousl angles relative to the expelling device and provided at its discharge end with a coupling 7, preferably valved as shown, which may be like that shown in my copending application above referred to, being as illustrated engaged with a lubricant-receivin nipple 8 similar to the one shown in sai co-pending application.
The preferred orin of conduit connecting the barrel 6 and coupling or nozzle 7 includes two angles, the outer end being mounted for swinging movement relative to the inner end thereof so that, by swinging movement about the coupling, various angles between the axis of the lubricant-.ex ypelliirig device and the axis of the coupling may be rovided, the axis of the coupling set from, the axis of thebarrel of thelubricant-expelling device, but preferably, as illulsltrated, in substantial parallelism therewit The preferred form of conduit illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 includes an elbow 9 secured to the discharge head'lO ofthe grease gun by being threaded into the tubular portion 11 projecting from said head. The elbow 9 is adapted to deliver lubricant to anfelbow 12 swiveled relative thereto, and, to provide a tight joint while permitting this relative swinging or swiveling movement, I have provided a tubular `connection 13 `between said elbows rigidly secured by threads to the elbow 12 and secured to the elbow 9 by an enlarged portion 14 adapted to form a tight joint by being pressed against a suitable seat by the pressure of the lubricant in the conduit. The seat for the projection 14 may be and preferably is, as illustrated, provided by a ushing 15 screwed into the` elbow 9.
The nozzle or coupling 7 and valve cooperating therewith is fully described in my said co-pending application and need -not be described in detail herein.l The connection thereof with the elbow12 is preferably as illustrated, such as Ito permit turning of the nozzle for the coupling operation with- /out correspondingly turning or swinging the barrel 6 of the grease gun, and to this end I have connected the nozzle 7 to the elbow 12 by a tubular part 16 resembling somewhat the tubular part 13, but preferably facing in the op site direction to permit rigid connection etween the tubular part 16 and the elbow 12 by threads, `while permitting turning movement of the nozzle.
The thread form of'connection illustrated includes the bushing 17 providing a seat for the enlarged head 18 of the tubular part 16 and threaded to permitconnection thereof with the nozzle 7 by the interiorly threaded sleeve 20, so that vpressure in the nozzle of the gun tends to maintain a joint tight against leakage of lubricant between j the tubular part 16 and the parts associated with tlie nozzle.
In Figs. 3 and 4, l have shown a connection permitting use at various angles relative to the nipple of a lubricant gun having a discharge nozzle rigidlysecured` to the barrel of the gun. The preferred form ofconnection illustrated includes a separate yangled ion.
connection provided at one end with a grease-receiving nipple 30 adapted to be coupled to the nozzle 31 of the gun and provided at its other end with a coupling 32, preferably valved as illustrated and adapted to engage a lubricant-receiving nipple 83 on the part to be lubricated. By initially applying the angled connection to the part to be lubricated so that the nipple 30 faces in a convenient angle, the necessity for an angled nipple is obviated and the barrel of the gun need not be swung transversely to its axis during the coupling operation. In places where such swinging is practicable. the angled connection may be initially applied to the gun and then connected to the nipple 33.
In Fig. 5 I have shown the use of a iexible hose 40 provided at one end with a greasereceiving nipple 4l and at the other with a coupling of the type illustrated in the other figures, the outside portion thereof mounted to turn without corresponding turning movenient of the flexible hose.
While I have shown and described preferred embodiments of in v invention. it will be understood that changes involving omission. substitution. alteration and reversal of parts, and even changes in the mode of operation, may be made without departing from the scope of my invention, which is best defined in the following claims.
Claims:
1. A lubricating device comprising, in combination, a source of lubricant under pressure communicating with a discharge conduit, a valved coupling at the discharge end of said conduit, said coupling presenting a part located within said coupling for turning movement relative to the remainder of said coupling, to effect quick engagement and disengagement of said nozzle with a lubricant-receiving part and for effecting opening and closure of the valve in said valved coupling, and a swivel joint intermediate the ends of said conduit permitting swinging of said nozzle and of the source of lubricant relative to each other to facilitate engagement and disengagement with the lubricantreceiving part.
2. Lubricating apparatus comprising, in combination, a lubricant-expelling device having a discharge conduit, said conduit including a swivelled joint providin a transverse pivot having an enlarge portion pressed against a cooperating seat by the pressure of the lubricant in said conduit, and a valved coupling beyond said jointwsaid coupling turnable relative to said joint for effecting cooperative engagement with a lubricant-receiving nipple.
3. Lubricating apparat-us including a lubrieant supply barrel, a valved coupling having its axis offset from the axis of said barrel, a conduit connecting said barrel and said coupling and a double swivel joint between the barrel and the coupling for permitting said barrel to rotate about and swing relative to the axis of said couplin when said coupling is engaged with a lubricant-receiving nipple.
4. Lubricating apparatus including a lubricant supply barrel. a valved coupling having its axis permanently offset from the axis of said barrel, said coupling being connected to a lubricant receiving fitting by rotation about its own axis, a conduit connecting said barrel and said coupling, and swivel joint means between the barrel and the coupling permitting rotation of said coupling alone about its own axis, and substantially universal movement of said barrel with respect to said coupling.
