engages one of the beveled. edges of the type plate 13. When lock ring 30 is tightly screwed upon the holder ring 23' said holder ring is clamped upon cylinder A so as to securely hold type plate B mounted thereon.-
To preventtype plateB from moving circumferentially around the cylinder a num-' ber of abutments C are employed which are mounted in the grooves 13. These grooves are preferably dovetailedbeing enlarged at the bottom or the same may be formed in any other suitable manner. Each of the abutments C has a lug 85 adaptedto be re \ceived bylany of the grooves 13 said lug be- V ingenlarged at its base to fit thewa'lls of a groove. Along one end of the abutment,
which extends outwardly beyond the surface Y of cylinder A, said abutmentis formed with [a beveled face 36 which may engage eitherof formed in abutment, G, the same being fthreaded to recelve a shortitapered screw 39. The axis of this hole 38 is situated Q la long the slit l0 so that as the screw 39 is screwedinto hole 38 the lug is spread ancl"lockecli11 groove 13 so asto hold plate 7 B in position onthecylinder, 'Ihe lug 35 of:
abutment C may be insertedinto any of the.
5 grooves 13 throughentry recesses all formed therein. If desired, the abutmentsfC may be split int'ohalves instead of being merely slit. Andwhile such splitting of s'aid abut- Tmjents makes forv additional loose parts, it ioflwillbe obvious a tighter grip, between abutment and cylinder is madepossible. If

Qdof holder rings23, in ad- 5o dition to engaging the edges of typerplate I; B for holding the same in place upon the cylinderare constructed with the peripheral surface d3 thereof disposedoutwardlyof the lock ring 30 and the body ofthe type plate B so asto lie flush with the faoe of the type i onjsaid typ plate. In this manner these.-
surfaces 43' serve as bearers forengaging the 7 paper tofeed and hold t in proper position on'the impression cylinder of aQprinttes maybe quickly mounted and held upon or removed fromany improved printing cylinder; Mounted on the} print Typ P throughout their circumferential edges and at selected intervals along their longitudinal edges. Said plates may be adjusted both longitudinally and circumferentially on the printing cylinder so as tobring the same,
with little effort, in the proper position.
Changes in the specificformof my invention, asherein disclosed, may be made with in the scope of whatis'claimedwithout de parting from the spirit of my invention.
Having describedmy invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patentis':*
he 71.1111 combination, a plate carrying cylinder a holder ring slidably fitted on saidcylinder and adapted to engagea type plate thereon, and a lock ring fitted on said holder ring co-operating therewith to clamp the same about said cylinder to hold it: inengagement withsaid type plate. V
2.111 combination, aplate rcarryingcylinder having a circumferential groove, an
abutment movable within said groove having a beveled edge adapted to engage the beveled edge of a type plate, and'means forclaniping said abutment inposition within said groove.
In combination, a plate carrying cylinder, a pair of holders movable longitudinally relative thereto for engaging the circumferentialedges of a type plate, means forlock lng said holders in 'POSllJlOIl upon said cylinrelativef to said cylinder and supported tion.
