roar-LIGHT SCREEN'AND THE Linn. I
Application'fi led Il'annary '15, 1926. Serial No. M81391.
- This invention relates to a new and improved port light screen or the like.
. It is theobject of this invention, among other things, to provide a screen for a port light that may be quickly inserted in the port light, is readily removed therefrom, and held therein against displacement. The details and arrangement of parts of my new and improved port light screen will be apparent from an inspection of the accompanying drawings, in connection with the description hereinafter contained, and wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts in the several figures.
In the drawings; 7 Figure 1 is a front with; 9 Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof with the parts in section being taken a generally upon line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 illustrates a modified form of the retaining ring; I r
Figure 4 is a fragmentary view of'a portion of the screen showing the finger tab connected therewith; and
Figures 5 and 6 are fragmentary views of a port light and illustrating different forms of my invention.
Referring now to the drawings; 10 indicates a port light having a. barrel portion 11 and to which is hinged the usual cover 12.
In the improved form of my invention, I
provide two grooves 13 and 14 in the bore of the barrel, the first one to receive a stop ring 15 and the other a retaining ring 16, and between which is the screen 17 I This screen is constructed with the usual wire mesh and bound by a metal band 18, the
insertion or removal from the groove in the barrel.
For convenience in grasping the screen View of a port light. having my improved screen connected there inside diameter of which is preferably less when positioned in'the port light, I provide a finger tab 21, which, as shown in F igure2, isL-shape, with onearmunder the band 18 and held in position thereby and the; other, arm projectingoutwar'dly beyond the re taining ring thus providing convenient means'for securing a gripv upon the screen.
In Figure there is. illustrateda form of" retaining ring, wherein one end is provided with a loop 22. Both ends ofthis ring, when positioned inthe' barrel, will be within the, groove and onlythe high portion of the loop will project/into the barrel." '1 r This type of retaining'ring is sprung outof position by the'insertion of a pointed tool in the loop 22.
Instead of providing grooves 13 and 14 cases to make the bore of the barrel-of two A diameters instead of one and thereby pro-H vide a shoulder '23 againstwhich the screen may be placed, as shown in Figure 5, in stead of in the stop ring. It is entirely The corner of the angle rim en-r. gages the rounded wall of the ring and feasible also to have only a single groove in' i v thereby wedges itself in place with the other end of the angle rim in Contact with or adjacent to the bore of the barrel, as may seem desirable.
There are other modifications that may be made within this invention that will readily suggest themselves to one having knowledge of the art, and I would therefore have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown andde-f scribed, but claim all that falls fairlywithin the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claimas new and desire to a secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a device of the character described;
a port light having companion grooves in i the bore .of the barrel; a ring'within each of the grooves; and a screen between the rings.
2.'In a device of the character'described; a port light having companion groovesin the bore of the barrel; an elastic ring within each of the grooves, one of the rings being formed so that a portion thereof projects c 7c in the barrel, it may be desirable insome end in a loop; and a screen between the a wire mesh gauze encircled by a rim sub into the barrel beyond the inner wall of the ring; and a screen between the rings.
3. In a device of the charactendescribed; a port light having companion grooves in the bore of the .barrelran elastic ring Within each of the grooves one of the rings being formed of coiled Wire that terminates at one end in a portion that projects inwardly beyond the inside diameter ofthe ring; and a screen between the rings.
4t. In a device of the -"cha'racterdescribed;
a port light having companion groovesin the bore of thebarrel; an elasticring Within each of the grooves; one ofthe rings being formed of'coiled Wire that terminates at one rings.
5. In a device of the character described; a port light having companion grooves in the bore ofthe barrel; an elastic ring Within each of the grooves, one of the rings being formed soas to project into the barrel be yond the inner Wall ofthe ring; 'and'a screen between the rings formed with a metal rim -aport light having companion grooves in the bore of the barrel; ran-elastic ri-nglwithin each of thegrooves, oneoftheringsbeing formed so that aportionthereof projects into the barrel beyond the inner Wall oi the iring; a screen. between the rings; and a finger tab connected With the screen, having an arm Which projects-outwardly at an angle thereto.
7. Ina device of the'character described; a port light having an abutment in" the bore of the barrelyandascreen positioned against theabutment; said screen being formed With stantially U-shape-' in cross section. and a fingertab secured in-position bythe rim and having an arm which projects outwardly at an angle thereto. V
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto afiixcd'my signature.
