IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,835, dated June 32, 1875; application filed May 6, 1s75.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, JOHN H. HARDMAN, of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bale- Ties; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of ref erence marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a plan view with both ends of the hoop attached. Fig. 2 is an edge view with both ends of the hoop attached. Fig; 3 is a plan view with one end of the hoop attached. Fig. 4 is a view of the lower end of the buckle detached.
My invention relates to bale-ties 5 and consists of a buckle having three bars, two of which bars are open at reverse ends, and one side of the buckle is depressed to allow the loop of the bale-hoop to he slipped on and olf by slight pressure, as hereinafter more fully described.
A A- are the ends of the hoop, and B is the buckle, having bars a b c,- and d represents the depressed side of the buckle, as shown in The bars b 0 are open at reverse ends, and the side d is depressed sufliciently below the line of the bar I) to allow the loop of the bale to be slipped on and off by slight downward pressure on the side and upward pressure on the bar; and when the loop is adjusted, the bar springs downward sufticiently to hold the lower edge of the loop below the surface of the side d, thus preventing the loop from slipping ofl' the bar. 1
The end A may be riveted, as shown in the drawings, or may be made long enough and adjusted on bar a without riveting, as may be preferred.
The bar 0 presses against the under side of the end A, and serves to hold that end in place independently of any outward pressure by the expansion of the bale, and the bar 0 is made with one end open, to allow sufficient spring to the side d to readily attach and detach the loop of the hoop.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a bale-tie buckle having an end bar, a, and a middle bar, I), with the end at side d free, the bar 0, having one end attached to the side 01 and the other end free, substantially as and for the purposes described.
