Application filed December 8, 1923. Seria1 No. 679,851.
The present invention relates to protector mechanisms for looms and more particularly to the construction of a frog for use in protector mechanisms.
The object of the present invention is to provide a frog which will hold its steel in proper position even when subject to heavy vibration. To this end the invention consists in the frog hereinafter described and .10 particularly defined in the claims, p In the accompanying drawings illustrating the preferred form of the invention Fig.
1 is .a plan view of the improved frog; Fig.
I 2 is an elevation, partly in section, of the frog; and Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
'The illustrated embodiment of the invention comprises a frog having a top plate 4 and a bottom plate 6 adapted to slide'upon a projection 8 on the'side frame of the loom. The frog is also provided with forwardly extended side plates '10 adapted to be positioned under-a pair of lugs 12 upon the loom frame. The rear end of the frog is retained in position by a hold-down 14 secured to the frame and having a iorwardly extended lug 16 held downfirmly in engageinentwith the top plate 4 of the frog. According to the usual construction, the bottom plate 6 of the a0 frog is adapted to slide-under the projection 8 of theloom frame when the frog ismoved forwardly. The frog may 1 be connected through a link 18 with the whip roll to move the latter forward and slacken the warps to prevent a smash. It will be seen that the forward end of the frog is always maintained beneath the lugs 12, whereas the rear end is always held down either by the em gagement of the bottom plate 6 under the projection 8 .or by the engagementof the In 16 and the top plate 4.
e to ing of the usual form in which the, frog steel 20 is received, the latter being adapted 5 to be struck by the dagger of the protector mechanism in the usual manner whenever a, shuttle absence from both boxeson the forward beat of the lay is indicated. The side plates 10 have upwardly inclined projections 22 formed with recesses" 24 into which the steel v maybe"inserted from the rear in the usual manner. After insertion oftlie steel a pair of pins; 26ers driven into suitable holes in; the topfplate" andthen bent over, as 66- indic'ated in Eig.; 2,, to holdthe steel in place.
plate 4 is provided with. an open-- The steel is further held b a spring 28 secured under a screw 30 am? having its rearward end curved and pressing upon the top of the steel. This forms a yielding connection to hold the steel normally in its proper position against vibrations of the loom, at the same time allowing the steel to move slightly when it has been engaged by the, dagger upon a proper indication of shuttle absence. r
While it is preferred to employ the specific construction and arrangement of parts shown-and described, it will be understood that this construction -and arrangement is not essential except so far as specified inthe claims and may be changed or modified without departing from the broader features of the invention.
The invention having been described, what is claimed is 1. A protector mechanism for looms com prising. a frog having an opening to receive the frog steel, a frog steel adapted to be received in the opening in the frog, and a sprlng carried by the frog having a portion bearingon the steel resiliently to hold it in place. I
2. A protector mechanism for looms comprising a frog having'an opening to receive the frog steel, a frog steel adapted to bereceivedin the opening in the frog, and a pin carried by the frog having a portion .bearing. against the steel to hold it in the ried by the frog having a portionengagmg -the'steel to prevent its displacement from the opening, and .a spring secured to the frog having a portion bearing on the steel to hold it in place.
5. A protector mechanism for looms com prising a frog, a frog steel, and a yielding on'the frog.-
