his invention relates to supports, and more particularly to flagpole holders The general object of the invention is to provide a flagpole holder for holding one or more flagpoles in different positions, which may be clamped on posts of difl'erent thicknesises, such as lamp posts, fence posts, or the like.

' A more particular object is to provide a flagpole holder of the character stated, with a detachable pole holding member which may be independently secured to the side of a building, .or to other structures to hold a flagpole.

The invention has for a further object the provision of improvements of the general character stated, 'which will be generally superior in point of relative simplicity and ineX-pensiveness of construction, taken in connection with positiveness and'reliability in action and performance, and convenience in handling and manipulation, and which will be generally superior in efiiciency and serviceability.

The invention includes generally a clamp member A and adetachable pole holding member B.

The clamp member A comprises a flexible metal band a provided with a plurality of,

apertures 1 spaced from end to end of the hand, through certain of which apertures a bolt 2 may be extended, and a nut 3 screwed on said bolt against the band for clamping the band around a post C, such as a lamp post, fence post, or the like. The'pole holding member B comprises a plate 1), formed witha pair of side wings l, a tongue-5, depending from'said wings intermediate thereof, an. elongated tongue 6 upstandingoutwardly at an' angle from said wings, intermediate'thereof, apair o1 studs 7 outstanding from said'wings respectively, a conical pole holding socket 8 formed on the outsideof the lower portion of tongue 6, a loop-9 formed on the out-side of the up per end of said-tongue in alignment with .said socket, and a flat ontwa-rdly bowed spring 10 secured at its upper end by a rivetll to the outside of the tongue 6 immediately below the loop 9. A flagpole D is inserted through the loop .9 with the lower pointed end of the pole resting in the conical socket 8 and the spring 10 engaging the pole and holding it firmly against the outer portion of the loop 9, so that there will be no play between the pole and the loop when the pole is somewhat smaller in diameter than the loop.

One or more pole holding members B may be supportedby the clamp A in different positions on the clamp by inserting the studs 7 through different-holes l, and the bolt 2 7 maybe inserted through diflerent holes to clamp the band at around posts of different diameters or thicknesses.

In the modified form of our clamp shown in Fig. 4 a pair of S- shaped members 20 and 21 and a clamp bolt 22 and nut 23 are provided for drawing the ends of the clamp band a together to clamp the band around the post. Each of the members and 21 comprises an intermediate portion 24, a lug on one end and a flange 26 on the other end of said portion. The portion 24% is bent inwardly at one end at 27, and is extended inwardly through an opening'l in the band near the end thereof, so that the portion 24 engages the outside of the band and the lug 25 engages the inside 01 the band. The flange 26 extends outwardly from the outer end of the portion 24. The bolt 22 extends through the flanges 26 of the members 20 and 21 with the head of the bolt engaging one flange and the nut 23 engaging the other It is obvious that many changes and variations may be made in the general and particular construction of the device and its parts and features, in relation to the recitals hereinabove made in that regard, inpractising the invention, and'in adapting it to varying conditions of use and service, Without departing from the true spirit of the invention.
