This invention relates to carpenter s tote g cases, and more particularly to tote cases constructed ct sheet inetal.

An object of this invention is to provide a sheet metal carpenters toteoase of light weight and strong constructionhaving convenient carrying means. The bottom 1 and theside walls 2 and 3 are shown as formed of an integral piece of sheetnietal. The end walls 4, 5, which are shown as'coiitacting with substantially the entire end edges of said bottom and side walls, may be rigidly and permanently atfiXed-to said: bottom andside walls by interlocking the'cooperating adjacent overlapped edges thereof, as shown at 8. The upper edge ofthe side wall portion 7 may b'e-rolled as at 9 to provide a strongand convenient means to carry the tote case when the cover 10 -is in open-position. The overlapped:

Hinges 12 may be aliixed by suitable means, such as rivets, to the upper side wall portion 6 and to the cover 10, whereby said hinges are substan tially concealed when the case is closed. The cover '10, which preferably extends slightly outwardly of the end walls 4,5, extends when in closed position over the rolled edge 9 and overlies a portion of the upper side wall 7. Slotted cross members 22 may be disposed and atlixed within the tote case adjacent to the bottom for the convenient disposition of saw blades and the like. Between the members 22 and one of the .side walls may be provided a space 23 for the convenient disposition of a carpenters level. For the support of a carpenters square a slot 24 may be made in the upper wall portion 7.

It will be seen that I have provided a carpenters tote case which is substantially weather proof and in which any contained tools are substantially protected.

It will further be noted that a tote case such as shown may be made of relatively thin metal and thereby be of light weight and yet, by suitable strengthening means, may be of sturdy, .strong and rigid construction. It will be understood, of course, that the tote case contemplated by my invention may also be made of fiber or any other suitable material.

It will furthermore be seen that I have provided a carpenters tote case having a cover, which case may be conveniently car 'ried about whether the cover is in open or closed position.

It will also be seen that in my improved carpenters tote case the cover when in open position is substantially out of the way and permits the box to be conveniently carried about.

To those skilled in the art many modifications of and widely (littering embodiments and applications of my invention will suggest themselves, without departing from the My disclosures trative and are not intended to be in any sense limiting.

l/Vhat I claim is:

1. In a carpentcrs tote case, in combination,- a container of substantially rectangular section having a bottom, and side and end walls, the upper portion of one ofsaid side walls inclining upwardly and toward the opposed side wall, the upper edgcjoii said side wall being rolled to provide a strong convenient means to carry said case, said end walls contacting with substantially the entire end edges of said side walls.

2. In a carpenters tote case provided with a cover, asheet metaloontainer having a bottom, end walls, and substantially parallel side walls, the upper portion oi one of said V side walls inclining upwardly and toward the opposed side wall, the upper edge of said side wall being rolled to provide a strong convenient means to' carry said case when said cover is in open position, a cover for said container connected in hinged rela tion to the opposed side wall and overlying the inclined portion of the first side wall, and means for carrying said tote case when said cover is in closed position.

3. In a carpenters tote case provided with a cover, in combination, a sheet metal container having a bottom, and side and end walls, the upper portion of one of said side walls inclining upwardly and toward the opposed side wall, the upper edge of said first side wall being rolled to provide a strong convenient means to carry said case when said cover is in open position, a cover for said container connected in hinged relation to said opposed side wall and overlying the end walls and the inclined portion of said first side wall,and means for carrying said tote case when said cover is in closed position.

4. In a carpenters tote case provided with a cover, in combination, a container having a bottom, and side and end walls, the upper portion of one of said side walls inclining upwardly and toward the opposed side wall, the upper edge of said side wall being rolled to provide a strong convenient means to carry said'case when said cover is in open position, a cover for said container connect ed in hingedrelation to said opposed side wall and overlying the inclined portion of said first side wall, said cover when in open position being adapted to depend along the adjacent side wall without extending to the bottom of the case, whereby said cover may not interfere with the movement ot said case, and means for carrying said tote case when said cover is in closed position. i

5. In a weather proof carpenters tote case, in combination, an open sheet metal container of substantially rectangular sec tion having a bottom, and side and end walls, the upper portion of one of said side walls inclining upwardly and toward the second side wall to a slight linear extent, the upper portion of the second side wall inclining up wardly and toward the first side wall to a greater linear extent, said end 'walls' contacting with substantially the entire end" edges of said side walls, a weather proof cover for said container connected in hinged relation to the inclined portion of 'said first side wall extendingsubstantially"from the vertical portion of said first side wall over the top oi the opposed end walls and overlying the inclined portion-of -said second side 7 wall, end flanges on said eoveroverlying the ad acent endwalls, said cover when in open position being adapted to depend along said first side wall'with'out extending to the bottom of the case, whereby said cover nay not interfere with the movement of said case, cooperative means to maintain said cover in closed case. 6. A carpenters totev case-comprising, in combination, an open rectangular sheet relation, and means to carry said tote metal container having a bottom, and side and end walls, the upper portion of one of said side walls inclining upwardly and toward the opposed second side wall to a small linear extent, the upper portion of said second side wall inclining upwardly and toward said first side wall to a greater linear extent, the upper edge of said second side wall being rolled to provide carrying means when said case is open, said end walls contacting with substantially the entire end edges of said side walls, a cover connected in hinged relation to the upper inclined portion of said first side wall, extending over the tops of V the opposed end walls and overlying the inclined portion of said second side wall, a flanged portion on each end of said cover overlying the adjacent end walls, said cover when in open position being adapted to depend along first side wall without extending to the bottom of the case, securing means for maintaining said cover in closed position, and an adjustable carrying strap secured to said end walls and adapted to ex: tend over the top of said case to provide carrying means when the case is closed.
