According to this invention there is einployed for the ends of the gearing enclosing frames for machines with link motion a construction similar to-.that employed for such frames in machines with gear wheels at the points of reversal. It is characterized thereby that the two ends of the gearing enclosing frame are box-shaped and are formed with an open side. The lower connection of the two end boxes is also formed as a shallow box open'at the top, whereas the upper connection is shaped like a plate.v

In this manner one obtains a. casting which is stiff in all directions althoughv using little material, and which is alsos'uitable for construction out of light metal.
The frame is bolted to the type-bed 2 and it carries under the bar f the upper rack 3, and above the bar g, the lower rack 4l. In a bracket 5 secured to the bed of the machine, is mount-edl a shaft or spindle 11 onv the pins 6X engage in a groove 6 of the gear wheel 6. The pins 6 are adjustable in the bracket 5 and moved longitudinally by means of a lever 7 mounted on the bracket 5 and operated by a. cam disc 8. In one position on the spindle 11 the gear wheel 6 engages with the rack 3 and in itsother Vposition with the rack 4. f The gear wheel 6V is provided withl a. recess-9 in which engagesv the lower arm 10 of a crank 10 which-is keyed to the spindle 11 and carries'on its are pivotally mounted two `members 13 and 14, Figures 7 and 8, car ing rollers 15 and 16 which project througi corresponding openings in the frame. The spindle 11 and thereforev the gear lwheel 6 rotates continuously. In the position shown in Figure 7, the gear wheel 6 meshes with the rack l, and when rotating in the direction ot the arrow 26, Figure y7, causes the type-bed 2 to travel in the direction of the arrow 19. The center line of the rollers 12 then describes the curve 20, Figure 7, when the center line reaches the point 21, the rollers 12 engage with the tracks on the lateral faces c, whilst the type-bed 2 Continues to move in a straight line. At the same time the member 13 is so turned inwards by the cam path 18 acting on the roller 15 that the transverse face o1 the member 13 is opposite the lateral wall c. The rollers 12 are then situated between the track on the lateral wall c and the member 13. The rollers 12 travel then upwards on the track along the line 25 and the gear wheel 6 disengages from the rack L1A. Before the center line ot the rollers 12 reaches the point 22, the wheel 6 will be moved along the spindle 11 by means of the cam disc '8, lever' 7, pins 6X and the blocks 6, so that it is brought into the plane ot the racl; il. Immediately the central line ot the rollers 12 reaches the point 22, the member 13 will be swung outwards again and the gear wheel 6 will engage with the racl; 3 and drive typebed 2 in the direction opposite to that of the arrow 19. The center line ot' the roller 12 will continue to travel on the curve 23, and then on the vertical line 24, the member 11 and the lever 7 coming into operation, so that t-he wheel 6 will subsequently engage with the rack 4, until' it reassuines the position shown in Figures 7 and 9.
I claim:
1. A frame for enclosing type-,bed reciprocating gearing of two-revolution printing presses, comprising an elongated body part within which the mechanism may reciprocate, and box-shaped end portions `l'or said body part of the frame, both the body part and the end portions being open at one side of the iframe to provide upper and. lower flanges, the upper ilange being offset beyond Athe lower flange.
2. A frame for enclosing type-bed reciprooating gearing of two-revolution printing presses, comprising an elongated body part for accommodating the reciprocating mechanism, said body part provided with verticalreinitorcing webs spaced from the opposite ends thereof and providing between the webs and said ends box-shaped end portions, said box-shaped ends and the body part having a closure plate portion at their upper side.
