FRANK BUCKLIN, OF EAST TILTON, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOOLS FOR PIVOTING WATCH-WHEELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. F643 14, dated June 22, 1875; application filed May 8, 1875.
To all whom Ait may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK R. BUCKLIN, of East Tilton, in the county of Belknap and State o'f New Hampshire, have invented a new and Improved Tool for Pivoting Watch- Vheels, of which the following is a specitication:
My invention consists of a tube with a plug in one end, a handle in the other, a centeringspindle in the center of the plug and handle, a cap for coniining the wheel on the end of the plug, and an outside centering-rod on an outside tube, all contrived for holding a pivot on the squared end ofa post from which the pivot has been broken, so as to be soldered on readily.
The instrument is designed to enable watchrepairers to solder on new pivots, instead of drilling` the posts and fitting them in, which is difficult and laborious.

A is the tube, containing the plug B, of steel,
on which the wheel C to be pivoted is placed.
D is a handle, of wood or other suitable material, in the other end. E is the centeringspindle for the lower pivot. F is a centeringrod, of copper, for the pivot to be attached. G is an outside tube, holding the rod F; and H is a cap, for holding the wheel on the face ot' the plug. These centering rods have a socket in the end to receivethe pivots, and
they are arranged exactly in line with each other, and at right angles to the face ot' the plug. The spindle ts snugly in the plug and handle, but so that it can be readily shifted up and down, to suit the length of the post. The cap H fitsl snugly on the tube A,I to hold the wheel tlat, and the tube Gr slides snugly on the tube A.
The post requiring a new pivot is filed square on the end, and with the Wheel adjusted in the tool, the pivot to be attached, havin g aiiat head as large as the end of the post, is then adjusted to and held on the end of the post by the copper rod F, while a spirit tlame is applied to heat the solder and unite the pivot to the post.
In this way a pivot can be very strongl y attached, and be adjusted truer in a few minutes lthan it can be in several hours by the old way.
