The indicating apparatus hereinbefore described is particularly adapted for use in a valiselor traveling bag of a similar nature in'Which bank notes, stocks, bonds or other valuable papersmay be transferred from one place to another. As illustrated diagrammatically in Fig. 5 of the drawing, the 7 Walls of such a bag are indicated at 36. The indicating device as illustrated may be maintained inposition in the bag by hangers 37" and 38conn'ected atone end to a wallof the bag-and,provided at their other ends with hooks 39 and 40' respectively torexample for engagement with the bolts or rods 22 and 23 for supporting and normally maintai-ning the indicating apparatusin po- 'sition in the bag. 'As shown in Figs. 3and 52515 the drawing I may employ strap members41jand 42-suitably connected to the shell oftheouter casing by rivets'43, 44 or otherwise and extending in opposite directions and terminating in hooks 45' and 46. These hooks 45 and 46 form slideways for the reception of a drawer 47 or other container ada ted to receive the papers to be carried in 'tlie' bag. As illustrated thecov er of this drawer 47 is provided with a longitudinally vdisposedslot 48 so placed as to be in alignment with and adjacent to the slot 11 and its cover 12in-the wall of the outer casing 10.
Normally the 'slot 48*in the upper wall of Ithe drawer'is closed by "a pivotally mounted pl'ate 49 which is maintained in position to cover the slot by means of a spring 50 or otherwise. V
In order to operate the indicating device as hereinbefore described the lead wire 31 from the cartridge 29may be connectedto one terminal ofa battery 51 or other suitablesource of energy,- while the other terminalof the battery is connected by a lead a 52 to one terminal 53 of a circuit closing device and the other lead wire 30 from the cartridge 29 is connected to theother terminal'54 of this circuit closing device;
Whi-le it forms no part of my present invention thedevice for closing the circuit to the cartridge 29 is actuated in any suitable manner when the valise is taken surreptivtiously or falls into the hands of unauthori'z'ed persons in any manner whatsoever, and also when'attempts'are made to open. the valise except in a predetermined manner. It will be understood, therefore, that when the circuit closing device is operated the circuit will be closed to the cartridge'29 to ex- *plode "the same and fire the charge of gun powder 34 in the inner casing, disrupting either one or both'of the joints covering the longitudinal slots in the walls thereof and alsothe disruptable joint in the walls of the outer casing whereby the discoloring mate rial or other similar substance contained in the outer casing willbe caused to pass either by gravity or by force or both through the slot 12 into and through the slot 48 in the upper' wal-l ofthe' drawer to come into contact with the papers therein to indicate that the same have been obtained in an-unautho-rized manner. that the purpose of employing the hinged plate'49 is to prevent the return: of theidisr coloring-inaterial or any'appreciable part thereof fromthedrawer to the interior of the outer I casing, "the pressure under which the *discoloring material is caused to flow from the" receptacle in whichiitiis normally It will 1 0W be. understood contained being sufiici ent toswing the plate 49 to permit the discoloring material toipassiin this directionbut not in the other as. when this pressure is relieved thesprin g 50 causes 9 the plate 49 to return to its normalf'position.
It will also be understood'that theindicating device as herein shown 'andidescribed is more or less diagrammatic and that'other and equivalent forms thereof may be employed Without departing and spirit of my invention. 7
I'claim-as my invention:
'1. Ina device ofthe class described, an outer casing having a disruptable longitudinal joint, the said outer casingbeing adapted to contain a liquid','aninner casing alsoshav mg a disruptable'longitudinal joint thercln,
the said inner'casingbeing adapted to-con- 'tain an explosive, and aicartridge. fixed. in the walls-of the said inner-casing.
2. In a device of the class described, an outer casing having a longitudinal slot.
therein, astrip normally covering the said slot and making-a disruptable'ijoint in the.
walls-of the outer casing,the said outer casfrom the nature.
mg being adapted to contain a liquid, an in- I V ner casing having a longitudinalslot therein, a strip normally covering the-said longitudinal slot and. forming a disrup'talole jointinthe wall of the inner casing, the said inner casing b'eingt'adapted to contain anuid, an inner casing eccentric with the outer casing and having'a longitudinal slot there in, a stripnormally covering the slot'in the inner casing and connected to thewall there of to form a disruptable joint therein, the said inner casing being adapted to'contain an explosive, inset head members forming the ends of the outer casing and in which the A outer casing having a longitudinal slot therein, a strip normally covering the said slot and connected to the Wall of the casing to form a disruptable joint therein, the said outer casing being adapted to contain a liquid, an inner casing eccentric With the outer casing and having a longitudinal slot therein, a
strip normally covering the slot in the inner casing and connected to the Wall thereof to form a disruptable joint therein, the sai'din} ner casing being adapted to contain an explosive, inset head members forming the ends of the outer casing and in which the said inner casing i mounted, a cartridge fixed in a Wall of the said inner casing, and caps fitting over and secured to the ends of the said outer casing. o
Signed by me this 23rd day of February, 1924.
